July 20, 200520 yr Why are we trading Lowell if we are paying ALL OF HIS SALARY! I thought the point of the move was to free up money, well that wont do it. I want to keep him anyway to see if he can come out of this slump, and I for sure want to keep him if we are going to pay almost his entire salary. Plus I dont like giving up Juan Pierre Jr.
July 20, 200520 yr Author Update... My friend called me, the deal is as I said and Burnett is getting a 5 year $48 million contract. He also said they were close to a 3 way deal but instead the Marlins will just do it seperatly and send Bigbie to Pittsburgh for Mark Redman.
July 20, 200520 yr bogus deal indeed...spare parts for 2 proven major leaguers and jp jr...no way is this the deal or the marlins are going to turn and make trades with those guys to hopefully free up some cash
July 20, 200520 yr Author I put a lot of trust in my source, he also told me about the Sosa deal hours before anyone reported anything on it.
July 20, 200520 yr This was a ripoff when it was just AJ and Mike. Then we added Reed. Although, we do get rid of Perisho, so that's a plus. Addition by subtraction.

July 20, 200520 yr man the only time i will get nervous is when they officially report it, think people! beinfest will not get ripped off, if for some reason we do this trade we have a back up plan, another trade.
July 20, 200520 yr Mike Lowell won't be moved PERIOD. Melvin Mora is the O's starting 3B and will be for years to come. And why would they even think of putting him at 1st with Palmero?! lol the guy isn't going to just all of a sudden become JUST a DH. I don't see lowell going to the O's
July 20, 200520 yr I have a friend who works in the Oriole warehouse and he is telling me that adeal has been agreed on. Burnett and the Orioles have agreed on an extension and the deal will be finalized in the morning. He says it works out like this... Orioles get AJ Burnett Mike Lowell Eric Reed Matt Perisho Marlins get Hayden Penn Admin Bigbie Jorge Julio Steve Reed Steve Kline He said he isnt sure but he think the Marlins will pay $7 million on Lowell's contract. 866491 I WOULD NEED ALOT OF :beer IF THIS IS THE TRADE....CAUSE YOU ARE BASICALLLY THROWING IN THE TOWEL
July 20, 200520 yr That is a terrible deal for the Marlins Kline has a huge contract and is worth crap. Reed (your guys reed), has another 1 mill plus contract and is crap. Next Julio had a terrible June with an Era over like 8.00 Penn isnt ready for 2 years and we are giving up a good minor leaguer in Reed. This deal is CRAP
July 20, 200520 yr Bad bad bad if true......All these guys like Kline and Julio are disasters. If true it really does make us look like sellers and that's ridiculous in a race that's so close!
July 20, 200520 yr I have a simple question. It is obvious that the Marlins will not sign Burnett. If he signs with another team as a Free Agent, the Marlins will get 1 round draft choice if that team had 16th best record or better and a sandwich pick. If not, the draft choice becomes second or lower. How is that better than getting Hayden Penn who is a good prospect, Jorge Julio who is 26 and throws 100 MPH, Admin Bigbie who can be shipped to the Pirates for Redman, Steve Kline who has had success in NL, and getting $5 million salary relief for Lowell? It seems to me that the Marlins are getting a decent deal. I am not sure why the Marlins are not playing well. They are better than this, but Burnett is 6-6 (!) for the season. Sure he has great stuff but he is not winning and really never has.

July 20, 200520 yr As an Orioles fan I love this deal. As a Marlins fan I want to puke, the O's are basically giving the Marlins the crappy part of their bullpen.

I also like the thought of moving Cabs to third and creating a spot for Hermida. My hope is that Hermida will soften the blow of losing Lowell. I can't wait to see that sweet lefty swing in the lineup. :thumbup
July 20, 200520 yr If we have to pay $1 of Lowells contract to not include him in the deal, it's pointless because the vaule would jump ten fold without him in the deal as a throw in. And if this is the deal, Beinfiest better have a hell of alot of tricks up his sleeve because we have NO reason to throw in the towell just yet.
July 20, 200520 yr This cannot possibily be true. Please FO don't do this trade.....I like Mikey, and AJ is worth SOMETHING!!!!

He would still be moved to one of the other teams out there looking for pitching help. The closer to the dead-line the fish get the closer to finding a team willing to risk it all for this year. But, if he did stay you are correct he would get 2 draft choices for him. Now for the players individually within this deal the following can be said. Mike Lowell - Alot of players have gone through a slide like he has been going through at this age level. The most recent that comes to mind of Paul Konerko of the WS. He bounced back as with 95% of others that had such problems when not caused by an injury. There is no injuries upon Mikey that is known. The chances of him coming back to form are very high. Actually over the past month now he has been batting around a 300 clip. Plus his season average vs lefties is pretty good over all. He is still one of the top 5 defensive 3B in the league and a clutch hitter. Not to mention the team captain, a local hero, face of the franchise and good community guy. The idea of paying for most of his salary to have him taken away is a terrible one for most fans down here. They, rightfully so, believe he should be given more time specially if the season might be a wash anyways. His value isnt going to go down anymore from this point after all. It can only go upwards from here. And to any that claimed he was on Roids, see Boog's show for the proper quote on Jane Eric Reed - This kid has the possibility to be an all star someday. I will forshadow this with that I am big on him. I believe that he has the solid materials to be a CF in any park with his arm and speed. He is a good defensive player and has a good eye at the plate. His speed will help him also in his ability to get around the bases. He has a bit more kick in power then peirre and needs to work upon his consistency to put into play at the plate. Juan Pierre is gone after next year maybe for more cash. He would be important to keep our fast at the top offense going. We dont have much in the CF talent to use besides perhaps Aguila there. Whom I see more as a RF/LF prospect. AJ Burnett - Now AJ himself without the additions to the deal has the following abilities. One he is a solid arm that has had a few injury problems in the past. He hasnt had troubles since coming back from the DL last year really though. Now the last thing you should ever look at for a pitcher is their record. Look at their K/BB, their Whip, their mind in pressure situations, look at their era, look at their pitches and what potential is there for them. The Record is team based, not individual. If you are going to look at it, break it down game by game to look over their run support on the games played. Normally you will find the differences within those areas. Now AJ has the stuff to be dynamic. He is one of the top 3 throwers in the game. I did not say pitchers. He needs time and to work with a really good pitching coach to develope that further. He started to this year under Wiley, using that change up alot more. But he still needs more time to fully fix it up. Once he does, I believe Schilling and Gammons will be right and he will be a CY Young winner. Perisho- He is still young and has potential to become a good left specialist like Kline. Consider him the same type of player just Way ungodly cheaper and younger. A bit more pontential. Kline - Not only are we giving a large chunk of money up for the payment of lowells 18 mill over the next two years (stated around 8-10 million). But we are also taking in Kline, whom personally I dont care for much. He has never been a great pitcher within tough situations. But, he was solid in the NL. Of course he is another left specialest that is being way over paid at 4.5 Million next year alone. This could be considered part of the pay off for more of lowell's contract. His trade value is very little. Steve Reed - another bullpen guy signed through next year for over 1 million in a contract. A very large sum once more for a bullpen guy that isnt a closer. He is an over the hill middle relief pitcher that has very little value and abilities. He pretty much is a wash with Perisho, and troubles for us. I guess he is coming over for friendship with Wiley perhaps. But, in either case, I dont think he will help much for that stretch 70 game run. Admin Bigbie - The pirates need corner outfielders terribly. They need left handed bats for their stadium as well ( it is shallow for lefties). Now on the bright side, Bigbie could become something rather good. He has a good swing, above average arm, average speed on the bases (not stealing type but good head for them). On the downside his OBS, His power numbers and his RISP is all lower then dirt. Well lower then Mike Lowells. He is young and could grow with time in the outfield by himself. But, he wont get that here in florida with Aguila, Joe Dillion. Hermida and Willy all waiting for time. They all hold more potential and abilities then this kid does. I think if he is moved to Pit it will be with something else as well for Redman. Redman we will have for this year, then most likely he will opt out for a larger longer contract next year with someone else. Either way it is a few months rental of a starter for us this year. Jorge Julio - Yes he is a young, fireball throwing relief pitcher. But, he is done with arbitration after next year and is a FA. We have a deep need in the bullpen with the injuries of spunny and AA. But, This guy has been wild at many important times. That is why he is not a closer this year with the O's He has the ability to be a closer (hmm someone say mota?). But, he doesnt have the nerves to get it done it appears. At the same time, he has been rocked within June putting up an era close to 8. Not to mention ridden hard for innings this year and last year. Hayden Penn- Ahhh the one jewel of the trade. A 20 year kid with a good fastball, change up and curve ball. He has the pontential to become a number 1-2 starter within the MLs someday. He has the ability to become another beckett or AJ or Willis perhaps. But, the key word there is Someday. He isnt ready this year, he wont most likely be ready next year. Yes, he is the top pitching prospect within the minors of the O's (only because bedard and cabrera are now up out of their minors). The marlins are so rich in the minors in pitching it is sick. Picking up the big 5 this year, plus Olsen, Vargas, Bazardo(sp) and Johnson. They have the depth down there in pitching to last for years to come still. Unfortunately, where will penn even fit into that? He will basically be sitting down there this year and next year most likely. Else be trade bait to someone for a pick up. Now the deal has bright spots and downsides within it. If they are shifting off Bigbie for redman it means the fish arent giving up on the year. Plus really we dont need that lefty bat. Cabrera will be happy at 3B (he has a decent range there compared to LF and has a .984 fielding percentage, plus the happier he is the better he will develope). Penn has the abilitiy to be great or net us a great pitcher. Julio could be the closer next year while Resop developes one more year. If not he will fit in with AA, Mota, Jones, Mercir pretty good. Kline could be the left specialist needed as De Los is terrible. The downside is AJ alone could net Alot more from the White sox, Red sox or Blue jays in talent for this year or next year. Or the yankees perhaps for some "starish" player to fillthe outfield. Mikey has the ability to come back as has been shown by players having these problems. Plus paying a large chunk of his salary is terrible to do really. We just went through this with Hampton for years The one true loss is the reed kid that really could of filled out the outfield well for years to come. But, one never knows. I still dont like the deal but that is my "detailed" view of it. Of course I am not someone that smart in baseball. Just a season ticket holder and fan of the marlins since they came to florida (before that I lived to watch the yanks in Spring training in Fort Lauderdale). Thoughts, opinions? Likes or dislikes on my reivew of the situation. I welcome all please. But be forwarned this was my opinions from the facts I could find. And I am no insider or baseball scout. I like to hear back though always
July 20, 200520 yr My source said it's going to be AJ Burnett for Hanley Ramirez. It's set in stone. 866702 The red sox wouldnt do that, I wish hehe.

People act like Hanley is the next A-Rod or something. Also your scouting report on Reed is pretty incorrect. His plate discipline sucks and he's only worked 17 walks all year. He has yet to develop any power either.
