August 7, 200321 yr Author No A-Rod? No Pudge? The ROCKET maybe? Nolan Ryan!? A-Rod hasn't been around long enough, but if he continues his career, he will certainly pass Wagner to be the best shortstop of all time. I had a hard time deciding between Yogi Berra, Ivan Rodriguez, and Mike Piazza. I also considered Clemens, but i feel that I'd rather have Randy at his peak than The Rocket. Nolan Ryan didn't make it because his win percentage isn't that far over .500. (Lifetime record: 324-292). He's not better than the other starters I put on my team, except for possibly R.J.

Nolan Ryan and Roger Clemens could both be argued as the best pitchers of all time, and they don't even crack your top 10? That's a joke. And I would take Pudge in his prime over Piazza in his prime anyday.
August 7, 200321 yr starters ss: Ernie Banks 2b: Rogers Hornsby 3b: Mike Schmidt 1st: Lou Gehrig lf: Ted Williams Cf: Willie Mays Rf: Joe Dimaggio (moved him to rf) C: Josh Gibson (going with you das, he's one of the best ever to play the game) starting pitchers 1. Cy Young 2. Bob Gibson 3. Satchel Paige 4. Walter Johnson 5. Christy Matthewson closer: Lee Smith DH. the Babe, almost put him in the rotation
August 7, 200321 yr Author Josh Gibson never played in the majors. I bet he would have been good if he did, but his statistics are incomplete as far as his career. I really can't include him. Piazza is just as good, if not better than Pudge. Nolan Ryan, although I like him, is NOT in the Top 10 pitchers of all time. He's in the top 20, though. Clemens is better than he was. Sorry, but there is no way you can put Joe-D ahead of The Babe. It's not even close. Ruth could hit for contact AND power. In 1927, he hit .356 with 60 home runs. I think that's miles above DiMaggio's best season. Bob Gibson should never be ahead of The Big Train, who won over 400 games. I like Satchel Paige as well, but like Josh Gibson, he was almost 40 when he was signed by Bill Veeck. But he certainly COULD be the best pitcher ever, so I really won't argue against that. Oh, and Ernie Banks is no Honus Wagner.
August 7, 200321 yr Here we go. 1st team. Oh, and Ernie Banks is no Honus Wagner. didnt i put ruth at the dh spot, i couldnt leave joe d off the list. Gibson never did play in the bigs, but he was still one of the greatest, it wasnt his fault he didnt play in the bigs, Satch was around 40 when he got into the Bigs and pitched well into his 50's, if he was able to do that, how do you think he wouldve performed in the bigs in his prime? it wasnt his fault either he didnt get the chance in his prime. because they were negro league stars, doesnt mean they dont deserve to be on this list. this is all-time baseball team, not all-time MLB team. if that was the case than they wouldnt be in the H.O.F. piazza is not as good as Roderiguez, he is better with the bat but overall i would take Roderiguez. Bob Gibson is one of my favorite old school pitcher, i love watching his highlights and the way he talks about pitching ,i couldnt leave him off, there are a lot of people you could include in this list.
August 7, 200321 yr Author I agree with all of Das Texan's pitchers. However....Oscar Charleston over Ty Cobb AND Willie Mays???? That's like a crime against humanity. Anyway... Nice choice with Kid Nichols, I forget him sometimes. Joe Morgan is NOT better than Nap Lajoie AND Jackie Robinson. I admit that he is great, but not better than those two. Ty Cobb doesn't deserve to be 3rd team. He is the greatest hitter of all time. He could get three hits in a game, even when he was hurt. I could argue that for hours. In addition, I believe that Willie Mays is the best overall player of all time. He has 3,000+ hits, 660 homers, a great glove, and lots of stolen bases. There was nothing he couldn't do incredibly well.
August 7, 200321 yr Author I know that he was good, and that he was an excellent hitter, but again, I would prefer to keep this primarily to MLB players. I'm not discriminating, but it's hard to judge how good players are (except Paige and J.Gibson) in a totally different league.

Willie Mays, Frank Robinson, Jackie Robinson (i know he was a negro leaguer), Willie McCovey, Bob Gibson, Rod Carew, Roberto Clemente, and of course others im forgetting

August 7, 200321 yr Only because Rickey is not better overall than the 3 I mentioned. He is top 5 easily. Possibly 4.

August 7, 200321 yr Author Why is Ty Cobb getting left out? And Joe Morgan can't hold a candle to Rogers Hornsby. Morgan is maybe the 4th best second baseman.

August 7, 200321 yr Author opinion. not fact. Career Stats Average Hits Home Runs RBI's Joe Morgan: .271 2517 268 1133 Rogers Hornsby: .359 2930 301 1584 :w00t :w00t :w00t :w00t :w00t :w00t And that's just the beginning. Most people agree that Hornsby is the greatest right handed hitter ever to play the game.
