PositiveHype
Anyone in their right mind, including Mike Lowell, can see the writing on the wall after last night's debut by Hermida. Especially after Jack previously hinted something about "aquiring" a position player.
TSwift25
Too bad Hermida doesn't play third. I've been on the Hermida bandwagon since 2002, but this isn't a no-brainer, as much as it pains me. This isn't Miggy sitting Hollandsworthless. Hermida deserves playing-time, I hope he gets at least one start against the Mets, but decisions need to be made on 3 players to do the Lowell swap. 1) Is Hermida ready to be an every-day player in the midst of a pennant race? 2) Is Cabrera defensively capable at third? 3) Is Lowell completely lost? Benching him now also pretty much assures that there will be no takers for him in the off-season, so unless you're in favor of us paying someone $12 million (at the least) to take him, this is actually a very important question. CantCatchMe
The point is that Lowell no longer is an everyday player, at 3d or anywhere else. Cabrera is not as good defensively, but more than makes up for that with his offense. Hermida joins the outfield rotation with Conine, Encarnacion, Aguila and Pierre (who should sit more, IMO). And there will be plenty of takers for Lowell. MLB mangement is full of idiots who will think they are getting a 3-time all star cheap, and will convine themselves that Lowell was just in a "slump." But even if there weren't any takers, the point is to win games now, not hope for a miracle comeback from Lowell after a "slump" that's lasted since the all star break last year. Lowell can pinch hit and if he shows signs of life, maybe get a start later.

Too bad both New York teams have 3Bs because they often are suckers for a "bargain" like Lowell Not that the Mets would, being a division rival). Maybe the Dodgers? Where can we find a sucker? Guest Fritz
Put Cabs at 3B, Hermida in LF and we win. I have no issues with Lowell on the bench. It's about winning now.
OldSand
I agree that the best thing to do right now is put Cabs at third and Hermida in LF, but I hate seeing Cabs defense at third...watching Lowell play the position spoiled me I guess. He's got 2 career errors at 3B as a Marlin, if I am not mistaken.
Accord
Lowell had his chance to break out of his slump, he never did. Tough luck, but we need to focus on winning the wild card and that just isn't going to happen with Lowell wasting 4 AB's a night.
