Vargas has been amazing this year so far, but can he duplicate it for a whole season.? As good as he's been, next year he still has to prove himself.? Starting the year with 3 young unproven guys could tax our bullpen early, and the bullpen never seems to be our strength in the first place.? I think we'll spend money to get a decent SP and a decent SS this offseason.

There are no good SP on the market besides The AJ and Jeff Weaver, and if we are going to sign a SS might as well resign Seabass. Please quit saying Furcal, he would be a disaster here.

Just curious why you hate Furcal so much??? Furcal would be great for this lineup as someone else to be on base for Cabs and Delgado.

I dont hate Furcal. I just dont think he is as good as everyone thinks he is. Delgado is not a good defensive 1B and Furcal would be horrible with that combination...Delgado cant even handle some of Gonzos throws and he is much more accurate than Furcal. And we have 2 leadoff men already, dont need 3. Furcal is going to either St. Louis or Chicago.

Furcal would not go to the Cardinals, they have Eckstein who they love and the Cubs have some guy named Nomar......nice try.

Nomar is a free agent at the end of the season. So is Grudz for the Cards. Eckstein would be a much better 2B than he is a SS. Nice try for you trying to make me look dumb. But if your going by that, we have Seabass. We dont need Furcal either by your theory. As for Eckstein, if you must know finding a SS and moving him to 2B is what the team is seriously considering doing.

Josh Johnson has likely been called up as cover for Beckett who has tendinitis in his shoulder, nothing serious, but apparently is causing a little discomfort

The Florida Marlins website says he was brought up because Alfonseca felt tightness in his elbow.

Johnson brought up: Yet another promising pitching prospect has made the leap from Double-A Carolina to the Majors. On Wednesday, the Marlins selected the contract of right-hander Josh Johnson. To make room on the 40-man roster, right-hander Travis Smith was designated for assignment from Triple-A Albuquerque.

For the Mudcats, Johnson was 12-4 with a 3.87 ERA, striking out 113 while walking 50 in 139 2/3 innings.

A hard-throwing Oklahoma native, Johnson has made 26 starts, with one complete game.

Although he will be used in long relief with the Marlins, McKeon says pitchers shouldn't feel a big adjustment when switching from starting to relieving.

"Do they change the mound to home plate [distance] because the guy is a reliever?" McKeon said.

Johnson gives the bullpen depth and provides a long-relief option along with Brian Moehler, who tossed three scoreless innings on Tuesday.

One reason Johnson was brought up is that Antonio Alfonseca felt some tightness in his elbow while warming up on Tuesday night. Alfonseca says he is better, but the team is being cautious. He went on the disabled list on April 21 with a stress fracture to his right elbow.

Yeah I read that too, but i think it is more likely he will be used as a long reliever than a 1 inning guy like AA and with the news about Beckett and his recent struggles it makes sense.
