Wilson Hits a Granny

Featured Replies

Josh Wilson went 2-for-5 with a grand slam today for Grand Canyon of the AFL.

With fellow Marlins prospect Robert Andino at shortstop, Wilson has been playing mostly second base for the Rafters and is hitting .288 with four homers in 59 at-bats. He might make the Marlins as a utility infielder. Nov. 4 - 9:14 pm et

-replaces Lenny Harris?

replaces Lenny Harris?

Nah, more like Easley.

:D

That was my first thought, but then decided I'd rather see us keep Easley as he is more versatile. If McKeon were still at the helm you would likely be correct. But Girardi doesn't have that tie with Lenny and would probably go with the guy who can play in the field.

I don't think there's enough difference in compensation between a minimum wage Wilson ($336,000 in 2006) and Easley at $750,000 a year (2005), when you compare abilities and MLB experience to warrant jettisoning the latter in favor of the former.

Easley can and has played every infield position, and in the outfield as well, for the Marlins, who, because of financial constraints, depend heavily on guys like Easley to cover multiple positions from the bench.

There's no indication that Wilson, at this point in his career can offer the Marlins the same defensive flexibility, especially at the major league level.

These are not anti-Wilson comments and he may well find a spot on the Marlins bench in 2006, but I doubt it will be at the expense of Damion Easley's.

I understand that argument, but given that the bench/starting lineup will feature Wilson, Willingham, Conine and Aguila we'd have every single position on the field, except for pitcher, covered, and in the case of Willingham, he'd be able to fill in at 5 positions, becoming the new "super sub."

I hope we keep Lenny. The dude had a great year. He deserves to stick around one more year.

Lenny had one of the best pinch hit years in the Marlin's history. Why the hell wouldn't we let him back?

Easley needs to be let go. He's a great guy, but he can't hit for average, and now that we have Andino and Wilson to roam the infield, why do we need Damion.

Would you expect either Andino or Wilson to hit better than Easley off the bench? I wouldn't. Plus Easley can play 1B. I'd get rid of Lenny who can't play the field first.
