November 17, 200520 yr A key reason why his stolen bases totals have declined is simply that he's not been put in a different role. Pure, unadulterated BS. It's purely a matter of his quickness having evaporated. He bats from the left side, to his detriment and the team's, because he admits it makes up for his lost speed. That's why you so seldom see him bunting when he bats righty. And you do realize he was thrown out 7 of 17 times attempting to steal? Here's a guy who last year hit an unbelievable .420 from the right side in '05 and he's still feels the need to bat lefty to get him down the line quicker. I'd love to see him get 400 ABs from righty in '06 and see what he can do. :thumbup Castillo needs to seriously considering giving up switch hitting. He'll have a better chance getting a clean hit from the right side than beating out a weak ground ball from the left.
November 17, 200520 yr he was thrown out 7 of 17 times attempting to steal That in itself is indicative of him being in a different role. I mean, how often do you run while Cabrera's batting? It's foolish. Also, I do recall him being thrown out several times on botched hit and runs, and when he was planted back in the leadoff spot down the stretch, I remember him running (and successfully) more frequently than we had been used to during the first half. Will he steal 40? Heck no, but 25-30 swipes isn't necessarily crazy, and individual speed is overrated anyway, it's not as if Pierre's 57 steals helped this team win more games than if he had stolen 35 and batted 30 points higher.
November 17, 200520 yr I would love to see Louie bat righty exclusively. I just wonder if he could hit righties well by batting righty. Does anyone know if he's playing in the DR this winter? Might be a good time for him to try it out. he was thrown out 7 of 17 times attempting to steal That in itself is indicative of him being in a different role. That's definitely true. I do remember him stealing more bases when he was batting leadoff.
November 17, 200520 yr I'd like to see maybe a Mike Gonzalez and Ian Snell for Juan Pierre deal. Two great additions to the bullpen right there. That would put my dream 2006 lineup as 2B-Castillo LF-Conine 1B-Delgado 3B-Cabrera RF-Hermida C-Lo Duca CF-Reed SS-Gonzalez Easley, Willingham, Aguila, Wilson, Dillon Willis, Beckett, Olsen, Johnson, Vargas Kensing, Messenger, Resop, Snell, Villone, Gonzalez, Mota
November 17, 200520 yr Andino is an idiot and besides Sea Bass has always had the talent and was an all star in his first year lazy or not. Andino is nowhere close to that. JP is not, has never been and never will be a franchise player. If you think he is you are sadly mistaken, franchise players are those that you build a team around. Our franchise players right now are: Miguel Cabrera Josh Beckett Dontrelle Willis You can argue that Luis is one based simply on his tenure with the team. Also you can argue that Delgado is one, although he has only been here for a year and also if Mikey can recover than him. JP is not anywhere close to that class.
November 17, 200520 yr Eric Reed would be an offensive disaster. Sure he hit .310, but that was in 39 games at AAA. Lets not forget the craptacular .335 OBP. Seems like Spike will but just about anyone in the line up as long as it's not Willingham. Can you give us your "OMG he needs to start" minor leaguer for tomorrow?
November 17, 200520 yr Jeremy Reed would be an offensive disaster. Sure he hit .310, but that was in 39 games at AAA. Lets not forget the craptacular .335 OBP. Seems like Spike will but just about anyone in the line up as long as it's not Willingham. Can you give us your "OMG he needs to start" minor leaguer for tomorrow? where do you get Jeremy Reed from? He is the Mariners future star in CF. We have Eric Reed a kid that has a lot of speed but hasnt really put it together to this point....yet.

November 17, 200520 yr Eric Reed is a CF Moneyball. I dont think me or anyone else wants Willingham in CF. And if you'll notice, I put Conine in LF...hardly a "OMG he needs to start" minor leaguer.

Hermida can play CF. I made the statement because it seems everyday you choose some guy the Marlins have in the minors (Aguila (ok, he was), Wilson, Abercrombie, Reed) who isn't ready and deem him ready for the bigs more than Willingham.
November 17, 200520 yr Actually I have heard Hermida wouldn't be suited well for CF. Of all the players I have mentioned, none of them are LF, where you want him to play. It has been stated, by many, that he would be best suited for the DH spot on an AL team. And that is the avenue I think we should explore, we could probably get a decent relief pitcher for the guy.
