This would be the worst trade ever.

Gathright is a faster, scrappier, better Pierre. Replacing JP with Gathright would probably be an improvement.

Joey Gathright: His speed is world-class and his Minor League stats say that he could be an OBP machine at the top of the line-up. Has improved his defensive greatly and is at least average there now. Would thrive if ever given a full shot at being a starting CF for another team, he'd end up being the Rays 4th or 5th OF(due to the organization's glut of OFers) if they decided to keep him. His only drawback is his Low Slg Pct. and knack for being a "glorified singles hitter" with little or no bunting skills

I've been on the fence about trading pierre....but now I'm getting the feeling that we should keep him. I'm not getting blown away by any of these offers so I'd rather take my chances on the guy rebounding back to form.

Considering beinfest wanted petit over milledge, i don't think he is dealing him.

Just keep Pierre, Castillo, and LoDuca. Take your chances on them and if things go south quickly just deal them at the trade deadline.

Strengths: His offensive style evokes memories of Vince Coleman, though Gathright has more hitting ability. Perhaps the fastest runner in baseball, he ranked third in the Triple-A International League in steals despite playing just 60 games there. Gathright possesses the baseball skills to put his speed to use. He's beginning to master the art of slapping the ball on the ground and using his legs to get on base. He also has outstanding range in center field.

 

Weaknesses: To become an effective leader, Gathright must work counts better and draw more walks. He has trouble getting around on inside fastballs. He'll be a better basestealer once he learns how to read pitchers better. His arm strength and accuracy are below average.

 

I like him a lot, but he's not worth one of those pitchers.
