December 7, 200520 yr I love Sergio Mitre. Fez? :lol Mitre is a big plus if Stark is to be believed. He would allow us to let Petit and Sanchez get the minor league time they still need and then could move to the pen later.
December 7, 200520 yr I wonder if it's Ungs...I still don't understand where he stands in the Rule V, but I do know that he did pretty well recently. I love Sergio Mitre. I dont' know what is so special about him. I haven't seen scouting reports, but so far his production has been subpar. I hope the FO is gonna trade the plethora of spects for position help. Definitely agree with you there. Gathright might be overvalued but I'd still like to see us go after him... I mean, if JP's value would be Nollasco and Pinto, wouldn't Gathright's value be maybe just one of those two prospects? Could we turn JP into Gathright and Nollasco I wonder? And let's not forget that TB isn't goin through the same firesale process as us. We obviously aren't getting equal value for our players, so to gague this against a possible Gathright trade isn't gonna work.
December 7, 200520 yr Gathright sucks. He is really fast and that's it, he doesn't get on base well, he is an average defender and he can't bunt to boot. He basically a really crappy version of Pierre. Please, oh PLEASE stop drooling over him.
December 7, 200520 yr Please, oh please, look at what I said... I said I think he's overvalued (is that drooling?).. ...but I WOULD like to see what he could do with consistant ABs in the majors. Sure his OBP in the majors leaves something to be desired.. but he did put up a career .385 OBP in the minors so I'd like to see what he could do with a starting gig and consistant ABs at this level. We're taking chances on pitching prospects, why not take a chance on a young guy who could fill an obvious hole and could possibly succeed? ...especially if it just takes, lets say Pinto, to get him? Would turning JP into Nolasco, Mitre and Gathright be that bad of an idea? I don't think so..
December 7, 200520 yr OK, you were being reasonable, it's just I've been seeing Gathright's name left and right around here lately and I had a knee-jerk reaction.
December 7, 200520 yr but he did put up a career .385 OBP in the minors Entirely batting average, which isn't the safest bet to hold steady at the MLB level

Maybe something like Pinto/Petit. One can dream
