December 7, 200520 yr Anyone else find it odd that we're expected to offer arbitration to none of our free-agents? Encarnacion and Gonzalez I can understand, but Jones and especially Conine should be arbitration candidates, given their small '05 salaries, the interest from other teams, and Conine's type-a status. Jones and Gonzalez should be musts. 95% sure they don't take it. With Encarnacion its to close to call it like 60% Now with Conine there is now way in hell we should offer him arbitration cause what he is set to make through a arbitrator will be more than what he will get on the open market. How is there any doubt Encarnacion walks on his arbitration? He had a solid year, and he'd get paid whatever the judge gives him to sit on the bench because it's going to take a lot to remove Hermida's name from the Opening Day lineup card.
December 7, 200520 yr From Rotoworld: Juan Pierre - OF - Marlins Not long after meeting with the Marlins today, Cubs GM Jim Hendry confirmed he made two undisclosed trade proposals to teams. It's assumed one was for Juan Pierre. The Cubs are considered the leaders in the Pierre trade talks, even though Felix Pie and Rich Hill probably aren't on the table.

A arbitrator will probably will probably reward Encarnacion with a 7 million yera contract. Now if Jacque Jones gets 7 million for 3 years likes its being reported then there is no way Juan Encarnacion accepts it cause Jones and Encarnacion are essentially the same players. I say offer it to him. I also have a feeling Jim Bowden signs him. If he does I will like to receive his first round pick. The other 2 I mention are locks to decline it though.
December 7, 200520 yr Just a dumb observation: If this whole fire-sale process was decided upon going back to at least to the managerial interview process...why was there talk a week or two ago that the Marlins had interest in retaining his services and the interest was mutual? And that was with direct quotes from Beinfest and Conine's agent. Just putting that out there...

And that was with direct quotes from Beinfest and Conine's agent. Just putting that out there... Well, we first read that the so-called market correction would entail bringing the payroll down to the $40 million range for next season. Conine's salary would have fit into that payroll easily. But not a $20 to $25 million payroll.

Both there old teams want to sign them but not at what they made last season. The 2 sides have until the arbitration deadline to agree to a contract if not (in there cases Yanks and Marlins) don't offer them arbitration meaning they can't resign with the ball club again until May which by then will be to late.

Arbitration isn't binding, it can be offered to a player to simply extend the negotiating window, after the sides come to an agreement such that the player will not accept arbitration. Happens all the time, it's expected to happen with Williams, and I'd expect it to happen with Conine.

They arent saying anything about Matt Murton Could this get interesting?

December 7, 200520 yr According to NSB, Levine said the Cubs offer was Nolasco, Pinto and maybe Hill.

He's no longer considered a prospect. He's set to be their starting left fielder next season. According to NSB, Levine said the Cubs offer was Nolasco, Pinto and maybe Hill. I am not from Chicago and have no connections to that city whatsoever. But Levine is well known enough for me to doubt anything he says.

December 7, 200520 yr According to NSB, Levine said the Cubs offer was Nolasco, Pinto and maybe Hill. Hey Pinto is pretty good in OOTP Dont go by your OOTP because it is the most unreliable one ever. I believe Murton isnt a prospect anymore one of the best young hitters of the league for years to come.
December 7, 200520 yr I believe it, Pinto is a Venezuelan lefty. Seriously though, I hope we can do better than that.

December 7, 200520 yr I am not from Chicago and have no connections to that city whatsoever. But Levine is well known enough for me to doubt anything he says. Yea.. I should have said to take it with a grain of salt. He jumps the gun quite a bit.
December 7, 200520 yr Murton isn't going anywhere... they have enough OF issues already. If they get Pierre, why wouldn't they give up a high prospect? He's young, and under contract for 2 more years (I think)
December 7, 200520 yr Murton isn't going anywhere... they have enough OF issues already. Yea I Know. Only thing I'm saying is that why did they stop mentioning his name in the list of people that they wont move? Im just very curious why they are only naming pie and hill and not saying anything about Murton.
December 7, 200520 yr Murton isn't going anywhere... they have enough OF issues already. If they get Pierre, why wouldn't they give up a high prospect? He's young, and under contract for 2 more years (I think) Because he is their starting LFer... he is basically all they have right now in their OF.

Are they just going to let him rot, or are they gonna try to get some value for him...or none of the above
