September 2, 200323 yr now as far as the second point, jefferson was definitely wrong on this accord. if the north had adopted this type of economy, this country is still where it is in the early 19th century. in many respects the agrarian economy is one of the many reasons for the war of northern agression. the southern economy was based on agriculture and thus slave labor. in the north you have industrialization and less reliance on slave labor but on immigrant labor, which we see especially around the turn of the 20th century. the only way this country would grow and become the world leader it is today is through industrialization. every powerful nation in the history of mankind has focused on industrialization at some point, be it the Greeks, Romans, British, Spanish, whomever. Granted there has to be some agriculture in your economy for sustainment purposes, but you cannot focus your entire economy on this; instead letting it be more a subset of your main economy which should be based on industry, because only with industry will you ultimately make money. now, now...i know the South made bookoo bucks in the 18th century via tobacco and sugar, but the prices fluctuate greatly and for to many periods the bust periods ruled, where the boom periods were relatively short. generally with industry there is a stablization process. so in sum....there are many jeffersonianism principles to be taken seriously and should be used in society, mainly the ideas on government. but the economic ideals are ideas that should be taken with a grain of salt if that.
September 2, 200323 yr no its not.... this is the thread where i said i would post my thoughts on jeffersonianism.
September 7, 200323 yr no comment really haha...just wanted to see what you had to say....yes, an agrarian society is not a good thing. There needs to a be a mixture. (Although, through trading, an agrarian society could work....as the South was doing quite well trading with G.B. antebellum). But, his ideas on small government are great.
September 7, 200323 yr Agreed.....Jefferson was bright but hes still human. Come on, hes not perfect. He's not Ronald Reagan
September 7, 200323 yr oh yeah reagan was perfect...... jefferson was a very flawed individual recieving much more credit than he ever deserved. reagan gets too much praise...in time his ranking will decrease as history generally is too harsh or too high on Presidents soon after their tenure. give another 5-10 years to truly get a grasp on Ronnie.
