Who is doing/did better, our President now, George W. Bush, or our former President, Bill Clinton?

I like Bill a lot better, since I'm kinda a democrat, I guess. And I don't care for father-son presidencies (the Adams and the Bushes).

Bill Clinton was greatly admired around the world while Dubya is not. Bill Clinton did not embarrass himself overseas for doing what people naturally do and despite the insistences of conservatives that he did embarrass us. People the world over do not trust Dubya because they perceive him to be an ignorant and arrogant man. And never forget this: Bill Clinton won two elections for President of the United States and stole neither of them. Dubya sits at the pleasure of the Republican majority of the United States Supreme Court and having lost the popular election.

im not a big Bush fan, but just because he lost the popular vote doesnt mean he stole the election. its the way our constitution works. the overall vote in the entire country doesnt matter, what matters is the electoral college, he's not the 1st president to lose the popular vote and still be elected. in fact in one election, i forget which, nobody reached the number of electoral votes needed and the election was decided in Congress (i believe its the house that has that responsibility but i could be wrong)

Clinton's lie cost no lives.

Bush's lie is still costing lives.

And Bush has totally raped the environment.

rape is such a harsh word... i would say more like sexually assaulted it (i just wanted to say that)

Thomas Jefferson "stole" an election by your terms. One of the greatest ever, don't you think?

Dont get me started on ole TJ.

The only real positive thing coming out of his time in office was the Lousiana Purchase.

actually, I value Das's opinions with a good deal of respect, and am interested on what ur feelings are on Jefferson.

(I dont know why I post so much on the political forum, when I really dont know too much at all)

TJ is one of those characters who constantly changed his mind on numerous things and gets far too much credit for things he did.

ie the declaration of independence.....

many believe he copied major portions from an earlier publication.

what are ur views on his "Jeffersonian" politics

i need some time to think about that one....have to go back into that portion of the brain that i left behind last year....

cool w/me

No comparison ............ Bill Clinton...

Im a republican, i think its Bush. I just like how he runs things and he thinks about everything before doing it. IMO he is very smart.

you like the image of him with a bud while he's making his decision. what i dont like is all the comic book talk. "youre either with us or against us... these 3 nations constitute an axis of evil...evildoers etc. etc." when i hear him speak i keep expecting him to get Dick(the older version) and slide down to the batcave to go after the joker who's in Iraq

Dont worry Furman.....

I havent forgotten about Jeffersonianism....

I will probably go over it tomorrow. I dont want to speak about something that is not true.

well, i probably wont be able to respond until Saturday or Sunday, as I am leaving tomorrow for the great state of South Carolina tomorrow night, and will be packing tomorrow, and unpacking Saturday (and attending the Furman-Elon football game...go Paladins!).

And thats any better than President Clinton getting head while speaking to senators on the phone?

getting head doesnt affect your train of thought... well maybe for a few seconds :D

sex in the workplace always has implications

Sure his behaior was improper but is not like millions of Americans are noy dealing with infidelity in their marriage.

ramon castro sure is :(

In no way shape or form do I support adultrey. I am a happily married man and hope to be for the rest of my life. But you gotta admit....

That is awesome

So that makes it right? That everyone else is doing it? Real good example to set for everyone in the country.

here are some of the basic tenets of jeffersonianism.

jefferson favored a smaller national government, instead focusing on more powerful state and local governments. to some extents i agree. to other extents i disagree. i will expand on this shortly.

in addition jefferson was very much in favor of an agrarian economy, this being a direct product of him being from the South, from Virginia whose economy was directly linked to tobacco and then later wheat. on this account, i am very much against Jefferson and his ideals.

now to expand on the first aspect, the state and local governments should have specific powers and should such and I agree on the reasons for why this should be done, because local and state governments generally will have a better idea on what the people want. but on that same account, the federal government needs to be strong on areas of national defense, on interstate laws and in some respects on items of the common good. but let me clarify on this last point. i think it would be better if the states themselves were in charge of programs such as welfare, education, medical care, etc.....BUT you can still collect federal taxes for programs like social security and medicare, etc....what the federal government might be better off doing, is setting standards for each program and ensuring that the states met these standards by withholding the funds, forcing states to use their other state funds for these programs....to those that say this is unfair, etc...the same thing was done with the road system....for example when the drinking age was raised to 21, there were some renegade states that didnt want to do this, so the government threatened to withhold highway funds and the problem was solved. something similar should be done to these programs of the 'common good' instead of eliminating them completely. unfortunately we do not live in a pure market economy, but a mixed economy, so there are elements of the free market and also elements of socialism in our economic and social system. fortunately there is more free market than socialism; although in some instances that is eroding slowly.

as far as the second point....i need a breath....i think i have hashed this out for the time being....sorry for the tardiness.
