saw it tonight.

 

thought it was alright. watchable. had its moments but nothing special.

 

 

You know, this pretty much sums up Jim Carrey's career. Other than Cable Guy and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind I really generally pass on this guy's films. And yet, if you put him in the right thing, that's not just a Jim Carrey vehicle but a good movie period (which Eternal Sunshine was), then I'm there.

 

Everytime he does a drama it's always so forced and mediocre (see: The Majestic, Man on the Moon and even a little Simon Birch). Part of it is, the scripts he chooses when he does drama are usually just so sappy. The other thing is, the supporting cast in his films are usually weak because they've blown a lot of their wad getting Jim Carrey.

 

I think if he was willing to take a paycut and take some chances (like John Travolta did with Pulp Fiction) he'd at least be in the running for an Oscar. He's a really underrated talent sometimes, but with an overrated career (inflated sense of success).
