From Rotoworld:

The Orioles and Cubs have discussed a swap of Miguel Tejada and Mark Prior, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal. A source told Rosenthal that talks are stalled because the Cubs want Erik Bedard along with Tejada and the Cubs want Felix Pie or a top pitching prospect in such a deal. The source also says the Red Sox are involved in talks and could be trying to land Prior, with Manny Ramirez going to Baltimore.

Red Sox would get Prior.

Cubs would get Tejada.

Orioles would get Manny.

I doubt that would happen but damn that would be a huge trade.

Imagine the Sox's power pitching line-up with Beckett and Prior... and don't forget Schilling. :plain

I just heard about that possible trade. That would be the single biggest trade in major league history. The Red Sox would have the most dominating rotation in baseball, the O's would get the most prolific offensive player in the last 5 years, and the Cubs would have the best infield in the game. Done deal I'd say because then the Red Sox could trade Clement and/or Arroyo and acquire some position players. They could try to land Bobby Abreu of Phillie, J.D. Drew of LAD, Shea Hillenbrand and Vernon Wells of Toronto, or even try to do a deal with the Yanks for Gary Sheffield.

If the Red Sox hadn't already gotten Beckett, then this is a trade that needs to be made for them. Now, after having lost Damon, their offense is going to struggle enough in '06 that they can't ditch Manny...even if Prior/Becett/Schilling would probably be the scariest rotation in baseball, maybe ever.

IMO, Cubs need to do that deal as a one for one.

WOW. I doubt it happens, but Red Sox win in this trade

How?

It would be another hole to fill. Lets not forget the fact that Manny >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Prior.

Manny makes a ton of cash and is a head case, they could use that money to get offense.

Well if you mean in the 2006 offseason you have a point.

I don't know how willing the Sox are to give up on 2006.

Well if this happens and the talk of Clemens continues, that's a pretty scary rotation. But you have to score runs to win, especially with the crazy lineup the Yankees are fielding next season.

Scariest rotation ever:

1) Beckett

2) Penny

3) Burnett

4) Pavano

5) Willis

:notworthy

More like...

1. Willis

2. Beckett

3. AJ

4. Penny

5. Pavano

Maybe now, but not in 2003.

Yeah, that's what I meant. If we had this rotation now we'd have a chance for the NL East title, even with our reconstructed offense. Of course, the price tag on those guys: Beckett at $4 million, Willis at $4 mil, AJ at $11 mil, Penny at $8 mil (right?), and Pavano at $10 mil. That's $37 million on just the starting rotation. The funny part is that the best two pitchers on that list are by far the cheapest.

Don't forget the notorious Mark Redman. He was quite a stud, almost completely blowing Game 7 for us in Chicago. Let's bring in Kerry Wood to bat cleanup while we're at it.

hey you idiot yea u need to score runs but hitting wins games but pitching wins championships. they dont need to score much if the other team doesnt score. this is a know brainer for the red sox. they can also get clemens and trade clement for some offense.

That puts up .300+, 40+, and 120+ consistently.

He doesnt effect his teammates, just upper management and some fans. I can deal with it.

Isn't he well liked by his teammates? Like they have a blast with him around.

I dont see why the Red Sox wouldnt do this. They drop 20mil and add another young ace in Prior. That would give them a sick rotation of:

1. Prior

2. Schilling

3. Beckett

4. Wakefield

5. Clement/Papelbon

and a future rotation

1. Prior

2. Beckett

3. Papelbon

4. Lester

5. Clement

Um hell yea

THe offense would lose some pop no doubt but obviously you still have guys like Varitek, Nixon, Ortiz, Loretta, Lowell, Marte, etc. Then trade Arroyo for Reed and continue to talk about a 3-way deal with the Pads and TB for Lugo and although a very long way off you would have:

C Varitek

1B Youkillis

2B Loretta

SS Lugo

3B Lowell/Marte

LF ?

CF Reed

RF Nixon

DH Oritz

Not as good but hte pitching would definetly better, also Patterson may be included in the deal going to the Red Sox, obviously not good but might as well slide him into the 9 spot and you have a complete team.

Without Manny, Ortiz wont get anything to hit.

Varitek's offense will be declining for the remainder of his contract, he is a catcher.

Nixon's production is going down hill and his defense is getting bad.

No one can say for sure what type of production Loretta and Lowell get.

I think Marte is still a year off.

Reed and Lugo wont make up for the offensive production lost with losing Manny.

If the Red Sox can get Reed and then use the Damon money to get Kevin Millwood and Troy Glaus, you have a very, very, very good team in all facets of the game.
