January 4, 200620 yr Olivo had the chance to start with Seattle and played regularly from April until June. As a result he hit .150... Then he was traded to the Padres where he hit .304 and manager Bruce Bochy credited him with being an important reason the team made the playoffs. so who is the real Miguel Olivo? the marlins savior? :mischief2 mmm
January 4, 200620 yr I'm happy we got Pokey.....it helps mend the wounds of losing Luis--I've always liked him. And Willy should be starting LF. I still have hope that we'll go after a CF.

And it's hard to help your team make it to the playoffs when you only play in 10 games during the whole month of September. Half-truths drive me crazy. Let's look at the facts... The last week of July, Ramon Hernandez goes down and the Padres trade for a struggling Miguel Olivo to fill-in. He plays every game except one that month (26 of 27) batting .302 with an OBP of .344 and SLG of .523. In the first five games of Sept he bats .333 until Hernandez comes back from the DL and coming off the bench he finishes the month hitting .286. Overall since being acquired he hit .304. Here's how the San Diego Union-Tribune saw it including a quote from Padres manager Bruce Bochy: "...Olivo was acquired from Seattle on July 30 after starting catcher Ramon Hernandez went on the disabled list for a second time to have surgery on his left wrist. Olivo started 32 games for the Padres and hit .304 with four homers and 16 RBI in 115 at-bats. Beginning Aug. 3, Olivo started 26 of 27 games. "I don't know if we would have won the division without Miguel," manager Bruce Bochy said during the final week of the regular season. "He stepped up when we really needed someone to come through." " That's how he helped the Padres win the division.
January 4, 200620 yr Olivo is very much a waste of space, even on this roster. Hopefully, he will surprise us.
January 5, 200620 yr that might be the most unproductive OF in marlins history ... yes and thats counting 98-99 years Hermida can hit (we all hope) ... Aguila has the physique but wow Olivo is very much a waste of space, even on this roster. Hopefully, he will surprise us. hitting wise yeah ... but behind the plate he will do wonders and thats his job ... LoDuca could hit, Pudge could hit and thats something that will be missed but I rather go with a defensive wizard that can handle a very unproven staff

If it's Hermida/Willy...both have a shot at 850+ OPS.
