Nomar To Play For Mexico

Featured Replies

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Nomar Garciaparra will play for Mexico at the World Baseball Classic in March.

Garciaparra, a native of Whittier, Calif., qualifies because of his Mexican parents, Mexican baseball league president Alejandro Hute said in a newspaper interview Saturday.

Garciaparra, 32, played for the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs before signing with Los Angeles.

Mexico is in Group B of the world tournament, playing against the United States, Canada and South Africa. Mexico's team includes pitchers Oliver Perez of Pittsburgh, Rodrigo Lopez of Baltimore and Luis Ayala of Washington.

That would have been something, Ted Williams playing for Mexico.

So when Mike Piazza plays for Italy because they have sub-par talent that's a classy move. But when Nomar plays for Mexico who arguably have the second worse talent base in the WBC, he's a tool. It's not like he's trying to beg onto a team with superior talent like A-Rod did with the DR or anything.

For the record, I don't have a problem with this. If he feels strongly enough for Mexico, then let him play for them. It's really not our business to be judging which country players feel most attached to.

Because I'm against A-Rod playing for DR, to be consistant I'll say Nomar shouldn't play for Mexico; The guys who film "Girls gone wild" in cancun every year are more Mexican than Nomar
