Tony Parker = all star

Featured Replies

Its funny how a couple of years ago everyone wanted Jason Kidd to go to San Antonio because they thought Tony Parker wouldn't cut it. Now he's clearly the best of the two

Ya he's a stud. Career high 38 really got me scratching my head, though!

San Antonio is a really great team and I can't wait to face them in the Finals.

BTW, Bill Walton needs to get off Shaq's balls.

not everyone.

from day one myself and a small group of Spur fans were saying that Jason Kidd would ruin us.

Turns out we were right.

yeah, a PG with 5.9 APG really belongs in the all star game...

ya cause assists are the only number a point guard is judged by.

i mean hell if the all star game is for those with the best stats, why do we even bother to discuss things, just pull up the stat sheets and pick those players without ever looking at the names.

Tony Parker is worthy of an all-star bid. For a point guard, he is 3rd in the league in FG%, he is a good defender, very talented scorer, and really leads his team well.

:lol :lol

Jason Kidd is having his worst year since his rookie year, and Tony Parker is having a career year...Kidd is still a top 3 PG, while Parker is run of the mill

assists aren't the only number a point guard is judged by, but it is the most important...and while it isn't all about stats, any point guard that's 18th in the NBA in assists (especially being on the same team with one of the best players in the NBA), doesn't belong anywhere near the all star game

ya tony parker is having a career year...odd he seems to be doing that every year.

assists are by and large a product of the offensive system you play in, just in case you werent aware of how basketball works.

a point guard's main job is to run the offense, stats are superflicious, or however the hell you spell it.

let me guess...baron davis on the warriors should be in the all star game, cuase his team is doing so great.

and to say tony parker is run of the mill is stupid and shows an absolute lack of basketball intelligence.

Parker deserves to be in (though Chris Paul deserves consideration as well). He's having an excellent year shooting-wise from the field and even though he turns the ball over a little too much, it's not enough to offset the fact that he's shooting a high percentage of the field despite being asked to carry a signficant portion of the Spurs' offense (though his mid-range J's won't be falling as consistently as they were tonight since he still isn't a good perimeter shooter).

However, I think Kidd is having an excellent year this year (though not as good as Parker's).

Chris Paul has been everything the Hornets had hoped for and then some.

Him along with the emergence of David West provides the Hornets with a much brighter future now than they had when Katrina hit last year.

They need to add a couple more pieces, once they do that, that team will start really competing night in and night out.

Agreed, Paul is having a rookie season for the ages. Very few players have come right in as rookies and been as efficient as Paul has been so far this season (not even LeBron).

Tim Duncan = MVP. I love Shaq but Duncan makes players around him better, he's the most selfless star I've ever seen.

it's not hard to improve upon mediocrity

people only say that when the stats are not on their side...assists show how well the point guard is running the offense

BD should be in because he's the best PG in the Western Conference, aside from Steve Nash....more steals, rebounds, assists, blocks, every category but points, and that's with a much weaker supporting staff

and to say tony parker is run of the mill is stupid and shows an absolute lack of basketball intelligence.

18th in assists....54th in assists/ TO....36th in steals...I would definitely consider that run of the mill

Tim Duncan = MVP. I love Shaq but Duncan makes players around him better, he's the most selfless star I've ever seen.

Duncan will never win MVP again. He has too much talent around him now.

i think Steve Nash is...nobody is more valuable to their team than him...the SUns lost Quentin Richardson and Joe Johnson, and Amare's been hurt the entire year, and they're still the third best team in the NBA...take Duncan away from the Spurs, it would hurt badly, but not as much as if the Suns had lost Nash

Ok this thread isnt' about MVP...but if you want to talk about that, should Miami finish with ~55 wins, then Flash has to be considered.

I don't see how that's relative here. Shaq has missed 20 games this year and is putting up the worst numbers of his career.

The stats are on Parker's side, not BD's. BD is a horrible shooter, which hurts the Warriors because he takes the 2nd-most shots on the team. Parker is shooting much better than him on the season, even though he takes just as many shots as Davis and uses slightly more possessions. People underestimate the value of shooting well from the field. Davis averages more assists and fewer turnovers per possession, but it's not big enough of an edge that it offsets Parker's big edge in shooting (especially considering the load he has to carry on the Spurs' offense). Also, Davis has a PER (Player Efficiency Rating, which is good when used as an offensive rating) of 18.3 compared to Parker's 21.6 (15.0 is considered average).

I hope Wade wins, but we're not going to win 55 games without Shaq, so Wade can't be the most valuable (you could make the case for Nash or KG, though).

If your going by that argument, Allen Iverson takes the argument and it's over....Take AI away and the Sixers win 15-20 games....Nobody does more with less then him....

The Suns minus nash would only be slightly better than the Sixers minus AI...the Suns with Nash are much better than the Sixers with AI

Your argument sucks. The Suns have Shawn Marion and role players.....The Sixers woulld have an aging Webber and NOTHING. If your using Most Valuable player to his team if he was gone, Iverson wins the argument and it's over.
