Panthers acquire Jon Sim from the Flyers

Featured Replies

We got that 6th round pick from the Eric Cairns deal, so we basically have nothing to lose.

The Philadelphia Flyers have traded forward Jon Sim to the Florida Panthers in exchange for a sixth round pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

"Jon was one of 14 forwards that we have now and was the guy who probably was not going to play very much," said General Manager Bob Clarke in making the announcement. "It did not make any sense for us to carry his contract on our payroll. We like Jon. He worked really hard for the (Philadelphia) Phantoms last year and worked really hard to earn a spot with us. We would have liked to keep him, but with the salary cap we could not financially do that."

Sim, 28, had recorded seven goals and seven assists for 14 points and 28 penalty minutes in 39 games for the Flyers this season. In 197 career NHL games over seven NHL seasons with Dallas, Nashville, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and the Flyers (1998-99 through 2003-04 and 2005-06), he has registered 25 goals and 25 assists for 50 points and 118 penalty minutes.

During the 2004-05 season, Sim posted 65 points (37G,28A) and 78 penalty minutes in 73 regular season games for the Utah Grizzlies and the Flyers' American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms.

He was signed as a free agent by the Flyers on August 2, 2005.

John Sim was a solid player.....you guys will like him besides the fact that he's really young.

Sim is 28...how exactly is that "really young"?

Sim is pretty useless...he's just a warm body to fill in who gives an honest effort every night. He's a fringe NHLer who doesn't add much offensively or defensively.
