Posted September 2, 200321 yr This is a very short article, not column. What Could Be Better? By Josh Clinton They're in the lead for the National League wild card, and just got back the biggest fan favorite in franchise history. Despite Mike Lowell being lost for the remainder of the regular season, what could be better than for the Florida Marlins? Make no mistake.? This is no one month rental to help propel Florida into the post-season. When GM Admin Beinfest went to make this trade, he insisted that the Marlins and Conine work out an extension to keep Conine a Marlin through the 2005 season. So they did. It is currently uncertain what position Conine will play next season, but it seems as if current first baseman Derrek Lee may be traded or not offered arbitration this off-season to make room for the 37-year-old veteran. In Baltimore this season, Conine hit. 290 with 15 home runs and 80 RBI. In his tenure with the Marlins from 1993-97, Conine received the nickname "Mr. Marlin," and was named MVP of the 1995 all-star Game. Earlier in the season, Luis Castillo broke Conine's record for most games played in Marlins history. Mike Lowell also passed him for the most career RBI by a player in franchise history. It seems that Conine will get a chance to retain both of those records over the next few years (it may only take him this month to get back the RBI record), and maybe even pass Derrek Lee for the most career home-runs in franchise history, assuming he leaves and is replaced by Conine at seasons? end.
September 2, 200321 yr subjective, doesnt look at both sides titles shouldnt be questions short, pointless sentences(some, not all) shouldve backed up those stats with actual numbers, very lazy reporting there that is all, to lazy to evaluate more, too sleepy

September 2, 200321 yr I'm glad we have Conine, but the price was far to steep. The article is mostly just fluff that doesnt break any ground or address anything new. Im not the kind of fan that ranks experience, leadership, or any other intangible over talent/production. So to me this a mediocre addition for an EXTREME price. Well not just to me, but to most every knowledgeable baseball person. Again if we sign Millar this problem doesnt happen and we keep our stud pitchers.
September 2, 200321 yr this time..... put some effort into it.... not just writing for the hell of it agreed but from my experiences it takes a couple of drafts to get it right and hours of walking around, drinking something, and thinking to put out a good piece
September 2, 200321 yr and we dont get to see Cabs and yada yada yada deal with it We all have to live with it and I hope it works out. But I dont f***ing like it.
September 2, 200321 yr thats fine Sham, but stop complaining.... whats done is done So when someone with a differing opinion makes his points its whining?
September 2, 200321 yr because every post you write now says how you dont like it.... we know already, we know

Well not just to me, but to most every knowledgeable baseball person. Again if we sign Millar this problem doesnt happen and we keep our stud pitchers. Well, I consider myself a very knowledgeable baseball person and I like this trade. Forget the prospects and look at it this way: next year we don't need the likes of Banks and Gerald Williams or Hollandsworth as fourth outfielders. Cabrera would get an excellent tutor and become a good LF. We can give a day off to either our corner outfielders or infielders anytime you want without jeopardizing run production. We strengthen our bench. From a PR perspective it tells fans that this team is making a real effort to get there, and it is also telling the players thet the FO cares. If we make it to the playoffs, and witl Lowell able to play, we then have another proven bat. Add to that the experience Conine brings to a clubhouse with almost no playoff experience. So, how could you not like this trade? And get over Millar, that's old news... water on the other side of the bridge...
September 2, 200321 yr To answer your question "what could be better?" I'd answer it like this: A future.
September 2, 200321 yr You're right buddy. It's a shame that Josh Beckett, Brad Penny, AJ Burnett and Dontrelle Willis are all pretty much over the hill. I mean goodness what will the Marlins do now????!
September 2, 200321 yr In case anybody didnt already know....I dont like this trade! Seriously though I can put this behind me and root for the team...its just when people say stupid s*** I dont like to let them get away with it.
September 2, 200321 yr To answer your question "what could be better?" I'd answer it like this: A future. i guess that also goes to ur " Braves" who cant get passed the first round in the playoffs 9 divsion titles in 9 years and only 1 World Seires , talk about a " Future "
