February 12, 200620 yr Good game, end score was 14-13, with Homeruns by Andre Dawson, Orestes Destrade (Sp?), and Bill Lee. Orestes hit the farthest one, cleared the screen in left field. (6 inning game btw)
February 12, 200620 yr I went, had my Yankees hat on and black Carolina Club shirt... I was busy getting autographs the entire time, got Brooks Robinson on 2 baseballs and a bunch of others on cards.
February 12, 200620 yr Author Ahh.. I didn't get there until the second inning, was on the left field side. By the time I got there, the "Visitors" had already scored 4 runs, then Dawson hit the homerun I believe. The Inside the Park homerun by that one guy was crazy. Looked more like an error to me, but can't tell from the left-field foul side when a ball in centerfield touches the fielders glove.. what was the dudes name that hit the ITPHR anyways? Was one of the Joe D guys..
February 12, 200620 yr No idea, I saw that HR though.... it just got past whoever was out in CF, and the guy had decent wheels and just kept going I sat 3 rows from the duggout
February 12, 200620 yr Author I got free tickets :lol these 2 people were just giving them away when me and my father got there. Woulda been cool if they went 9 innings but whatever. Did they have an announcement before the game that it would be only 6?
February 12, 200620 yr They only go 5 or 6 .... these old guys don't have it to play a full game, and they certainly don't want to finish the game around 10:30. It was the same last year when I went, and I'm sure it has been like this for many years, if not all of em
February 12, 200620 yr Does anyone have a list of all the players that were there? It wasn't a true "legends" game persay, The only 2 HOFers there were Brooks Robinson and Earl Weaver I had a list, not sure what I did with it; the players that I remember off the top of my head though are; Bert Campaneris, Minnie Minoso, Andre Dawson, Bill Lee, Paul Blair, Andy Pafko, Ron Swoboda, Ed Kranepool, Al Downing, Rico Carty, Al Hrabosky, Ron Taylor, Alvin Dark, "Blue Moon" Odom, Phil Linz There were a bunch more, but I think I covered the bigger names... Jeff Conine was also there (didn't play though), as well as Max Weinberg
February 12, 200620 yr Yeah, atleast it has been for the past 4 or 5 years The players are always the same, give or take 1 or 2, each year. I'm not sure how much longer Minnie Minoso is going to be able to do it, seems like he was ready to drop dead after just running out to the 1st baseline when he was introduced :lol
February 12, 200620 yr The players and celebrities get paid, and the other no-names you saw during the latter half of the game are just volunteers (I'm guessing they're workers from Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital)
February 12, 200620 yr as well as Max Weinberg Max Weinberg? As in the same Mag Weinberg from the Max Weinberg 7 on Conan? :lol
February 13, 200620 yr It was 14-13?! I left and it was 14-2 in the middle of the 5th. Did you mean 14-3?
February 13, 200620 yr Author No, I meant 14-13. The home team scored 9 runs in the last inning (bottom 6th) and 2 runs in the bottom 5th.
February 13, 200620 yr No, I meant 14-13. The home team scored 9 runs in the last inning (bottom 6th) and 2 runs in the bottom 5th. Holy crap, I can't wait to tell my friend that! But anyway I loved seeing the two Marlins hitting homers at the game. Big O is still in pretty good shape. Then again, he's only 44, he's a comparative baby. Did you see Swoboda's gut?!
February 13, 200620 yr The players and celebrities get paid, and the other no-names you saw during the latter half of the game are just volunteers (I'm guessing they're workers from Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital) It's a game for charity - are you sure the players get paid? I found that somewhat doubtful. I mean who's gonna pay for some of those guys? Maybe Brooks Robinson...but that's about it. Another interesting participant was former Bull/Laker - Ron Harper. He had a pretty solid single and a nice catch in left.

I found that somewhat doubtful. Yes, I'm positive. I found that pretty surprising too, considering like you said, it was for charity. I was at the little after-party tent, that was held in the O's parking lot after the game, checks from Joe D's Children's Hospital were given to all the players.

Wow...some of those guys were hardly legends - Oscar Gamble, Jim McAndrew, Wayne Garrett, Ed Kranepool, Eliot Maddux just to name a few. I never even heard of a few of the other participants. A bunch of stiffs if you ask me. Other than Brooks Robinson and Andre Dawson I thought it was a weak field. Those guys must be pretty hard up if they need to accept checks from a Children's Hospital Charitable Fund. :thumbdown
February 13, 200620 yr I wish for future legends games, they find away to get better players... theres a legends game in clearwater I believe in March.... and that consists of Boggs, Smith, and the rest of the greats. This is a joke of a legends game

This is a joke of a legends game Yeah, the one they hold in Clearwater each year is the best i've ever been to. Considering, though, I've only been to two. :plain Boggs, Gaylord Perry, Fergie Jenkins, Bob Feller, Harmon Killebrew, and a whole bunch of other real "legends"
