Practices open to the public

Featured Replies

Monday marks the first day of workouts for pitchers and catchers on the back fields at Roger Dean Stadium. The players will begin warming up about 10 a.m. ET, and practices are open to the public.

Tuesday is report day for the position players, and after undergoing their physicals on Wednesday, the first full-squad workout is Thursday. Until Spring Training games begin on March 1, workouts will be at 10 a.m.

With so many pitchers needing to be looked at, there are chances for more intrasquad and "B" games throughout Spring Training.

The Marlins have 58 players in big-league camp.

"Monday is going to be the first true special day, because it's when camp starts," Girardi said. "It's wonderful being named the manager of the Florida Marlins. Once Monday starts, it's all for real. That's going to be a special day, and Opening Day is going to be a huge day for me."

Can I get the address please? I'd like to try out.

I think by "open to the public" it means anyone can go watch....

but maybe Im wrong

Guys, I've tried out for the White Sox minor league team (the knights), I've made the final five cut, I am even better this year than last when I tried out, I want to make a dream come true, but I have no way of getting to Charlotte this year. I need to try out here close to florida, I need help with this, am glad u guys posted this, know anyway I can get a tryout?

quick edit: I've been told I was going to be called, I never was, I guess it's hard to get into Triple-A str8 up, that's what my father told me, that I should try out for a team in a lower minor league system. I have tried out as an outfielder (LF), and made the final ten and got cut (I was tired). Last year I tried out as a pitcher, and made the final five and didn't get cut at all, we all were told that if we were needed we'd be called, but since they take about maybe 15 tryouts a year, they prob found someone better (to win now), but I trully believe that if they knew my work ethic and how willing I am to learn and work hard they would have signed me. I think they had ended up signing some kid their that was hitting homers from both sides of the plate that day, every pitch he cleared the fence, and they also signed some kid that was in the minors (Diamondbacks I believe he told me) before and got hurt, was hitting 93mph on the gun. they both got about 50-80 thousand dollars. Among the other three was me and my brother in law. So in past history I have gotten close. I need somewhere closer so I can prepare better. Is it open to the public or a clear TRYOUT?

It's really just the timing. They don't care for contact hitters much in these camps, they look for power, if you try as an outfielder they want you to be able to throw from the deepest part in the outfield in a straight line to third base with no bounce. They put you to run 40 yards, you need to be able to run it in 6.0 secs or less. As a pitcher you run, and pitch to the hitters who are trying out. It's a challenge cause if you are being hit, they automatically take you out, then test the batter with more pitchers. I never pitched in my life until I reached college, it was better for me cause to get in as a hitter it requires too much stamina I don't have time for with work and all (I maintain myself though). Pitching is much more easy, but you need to throw hard enough, 88 mhp and up. they also look for a three pitch arsenal, they are very strict with you knowing how to throw a changeup (it's a must).

I throw about 95-96 MPH but with zero control. And I also tend to throw high and inside for whatever reason. Chin music. And I throw almost side-arm, so it's hard for the hitter to realize the ball is going straight at his head. I tried out once and they told me I had great velocity on my fastball but that they were afraid I'd end up killing a man. I throw so hard I could kill a man.

thanks bro. I have faith, and confidence I will ONE DAY.

Call all 30 major league teams and ask when and where their open tryouts are going to be.
