March 28, 200620 yr Author Ah here it is Owners are rewarded in the points race in much the same fashion but, unlike drivers, they earn points for merely attempting to make a race. If an owner shows up with a pair of drivers, and one fails to qualify, the owner still receives points for the non-qualifying effort. The fastest non-qualifier on race day earns 31 points for his owner, three down from the 43rd-place points. The scale continues downward from there for all non-qualifiers, with the lowest possible point(s) awarded being one. http://www.nascar.com/2004/news/headlines/...stem/index.html So basically Riggs' owner earned 31 points for attempting to qualify because he was the first car out at Daytona. So even though Sterling is 1 ahead of Riggs in the cup standings, Riggs is ahead by 30 in the owner standings. Another stupid NASCAR technicality.
March 29, 200620 yr That owners stuff is stupid. There's only two guys who can feasibly win every year (Roush and the other guy with 8 cars). *YAWN* Sounds like some needless backpatting. I think Petty Enterprises should get double points anyways, they always field Kyle Petty and that guy sucks. Easily the most ineffective racer of all time.
March 29, 200620 yr Author I think Petty Enterprises should get double points anyways, they always field Kyle Petty and that guy sucks. Easily the most ineffective racer of all time. Kyle Petty ineffective? He's kept numerous charities going that help disadvantaged people over the years. He is one of the nicest people and he knows how to drive a racecar just as good as any other driver on the track. He runs his own team with his own money and puts his car and another car on the track each week out of his own pocket. He finished in the top 10 at Atlanta this year and he has over 5 career wins and 20 career top 10s. Ineffective? I think not.
March 29, 200620 yr He hasn't excelled on the track, he's in the 45 car by default though. Still the nicest freaking guy you could ever meet.

All because he is the son of a legend He has been racing since 1980 and only has 5 wins? He has raced under Petty Enterprises and the Wood Brothers. There was another I forgot who it was though. To not have more wins than that is shocking really Don't get me wrong. The guy has done amazing things for charities which is fantastic and I give him credit for that. He just isn't a very good race car driver. He is very well spoken and it seems he can run a business fairly well so I do expect him to become a successful car owner in the future.
March 29, 200620 yr Nice or not, he shouldn't be out there just because he's Richard Petty's son. I wish for the golden days I never saw of Richard dominating in big Dodges and being accused of for cheating because the other cars couldn't keep up and his car had hemispherical heads (you know, back when they raced kind of production cars). But, Kyle Petty sucks. And there's guys with tons more potential without rides. That's just my opinion.

It doesn't take anyone who's studied Plato to know that a good racecar driver drives a racecar good. Kyle Petty sucks as a racecar driver because his driving sucks. He rarely cracks the top ten (by rarely I mean almost ever). He's not good at his job.
March 29, 200620 yr I wouldn't even care if he was driving a Chevy or Ford. But he wasting a good Dodge ride based on name alone. I honestly wonder how bored his dad is watching his son be bad to mediocre every single race?
March 29, 200620 yr Author Yeah no one's saying he's worthless, but he is an ineffective race car driver. Mark my words. This is Petty Enterprises' comeback year. I don't know about making the chase but Petty and Labonte are going to get more top 10s by the time this year is over. Then none of you will be calling him ineffective.
March 30, 200620 yr Bobby Labonte has already stepped into the Petty equipment and driven his heart out to some good finishes. Kyle has done this like 3 times in the last 5 or 6 years.

March 30, 200620 yr OK, we'll see. I'd love to see Kyle contend for some wins. :thumbup (Is he your favorite driver? Or who is?)
March 30, 200620 yr Author OK, we'll see. I'd love to see Kyle contend for some wins. :thumbup (Is he your favorite driver? Or who is?) Mark Martin is my favorite driver. I do like Kyle Petty but I also like every driver except for three.
March 31, 200620 yr Author I really doubt that Sterling Marlin will ever win another race. Sterling was fastest in first practice and he qualified 6th. Really good run for him. Could be a top 10 car this weekend at Martinsville.
April 1, 200620 yr Author Man I'm pumped up about Sunday. What a great qualifying run. Indeed. Looks like a top 10 car for sure. Maybe top 5, if he can stay out of trouble. That's kind of hard at Martinsville.
April 1, 200620 yr Sterling runs well at Martinsville. Man, I'd just love to see him in contention. We need some long green flag runs, that always plays into his hands when he has a good car.
