September 10, 200323 yr Since we are talking about Pavano, why stop there? For my money, this was the guy that I thought would be the most dominating come the second half. He has not disappointed, giving us dominating performances. Last 2 starts, 13.2 IP, 13 K's, 7BBs, 0 ERA and a .156 BAA. Post All-star; 67.1IP, 66 K's, 24BBs, 2.27ERA and a .228BAA. 5-3. Wonder if this is Beckett starting to come into his own.
September 10, 200323 yr Author As with all the pitchers, who have had great success, credit needs to be given to Rosenthal - he has been helping these guys out into one of the best rotations in baseball.
September 10, 200323 yr Remember when we said the key pitcher(s) to our seocnd half were Beckett and Penny? Well, they've been great and we've been winning.
September 10, 200323 yr beckett has quietly snuck up on people around baseball as being dominating. hopefully this is beckett turning the corner and coming into his own as an elite pitcher in this league.
September 11, 200323 yr He looks like the #1 pick in the draft. Where the hell is TB's Joey Hamilton?
September 11, 200323 yr I remember when we had the 2nd pick, and I heard Hamilton could pitch real good, and hit better, and I wanted him.
September 11, 200323 yr Sheesh . . . I was calling him Joey. It is Josh. This is from D-Rays Site: Josh Hamilton, the No. 1 overall draft pick in 1999 who has missed most of this season for ``personal'' reasons, began structured workouts Monday with the Devil Rays' Triple-A affiliate in Durham, N.C. Once he resurfaced, he offered few specifics on his whereabouts, insisting only that his removal from public life wasn't drug-related. He was assigned to the Double-A Orlando Rays, but soon asked for and was granted a leave of absence for this season. His home is near Raleigh, N.C., where he is believed to have spent most of the summer with a seriously ill family member. LaMar declined further comment, and Hamilton could not be reached for comment.
September 11, 200323 yr Ok This is from usatoday.com: The Tampa Bay Devil Rays Wednesday made outfielder Josh Hamilton the first high school player selected No. 1 overall in the annual major league draft in six years. Hamilton, from Athens Drive High in Raleigh, N.C., is the first prep star so coveted since Seattle took shortstop Alex Rodriguez in 1993. Hamilton is a 6-foot-4, left-handed hitter and pitcher who dazzled Devil Rays scouts with his speed, power and makeup.
September 11, 200323 yr And this is from cnnsi.com: Consider this: Josh Beckett, the highly touted righty from Spring (Texas) High, throws his fastball in the mid-90s. He has scouts drooling. Eric Munson, the Southern Cal catcher, hits for power to all fields and is a defensive standout. He has scouts drooling. Josh Hamilton, the probable No. 1 pick in the June amateur draft, is 7-1 with 83 strikeouts in 47 innings this season and ticks 96 mph on the radar gun. He is batting .556 with 11 home runs, 34 RBIs and, most astonishingly, only four whiffs in 63 at bats. He hits for power to all fields. In centerfield he's an instinctive defender with a phenomenal arm and a smooth, quick stride that helps him cover the alleys with ease. Thomas says, "Can you imagine someone so good at so much that he could be a lefthander throwing 96 miles per hour -- and not be wanted as a pitcher?"
September 11, 200323 yr 2.98 ERA for JOSH... THAT ALONE says everything about the year he is having... well dismiss the 1st half... Josh in my opnion has been our best pitcher the entire 2nd half.. and as of right he is the best pitcher on the staff... i also neva thought id say this, but damn our pen is niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Tejera "hasnt been bad at all since the all star break" Rick. H Foxie "strike out robot" Bump aka da PIMP Uggey "has an ERA under 1, enough said" Loop da CLOSER AM I missing anybody?????? what eva happned to Scott Sanders i was so looking foward to seeing him in SEPT oh well.....
September 11, 200323 yr Sanders would accomplish nothing more than what Rick Helling or Chad Fox has accomplished. He'd just be a long reliever.
