Posted March 29, 200618 yr Does anyone else get the feeling, from statements and articles such as this, that Harris isn't going to make the squad? I could see a couple of reasons for this (don't dare say OMG HE SUXXXX!!!1!!11!!ONE!!). First of all, with Girardi preaching flexibility, although Harris can play several positions, there isn't much Harris can do in the field for more than an inning. Secondly, although this may seem odd, perhaps Joe will feel like Lenny has the potential to steal the clubhouse from him, seeing as how they're the same age (is Lenny older?). Personally I love Lenny and would love to see him on the team. I know it may seem like "wasting a roster spot" but you have to admit the man is an amazing pinch hitter. And you know he'd be a great role model for the kids. Opinions? I'm not looking for whether you think he SHOULD or SHOULDN'T make the team, I'm looking for whether you think he WILL or WON'T make it.
March 29, 200618 yr From what I have been reading it does not look good for Lenny...I think Girardi is going with the youth movement all the way around.....but then again I could be so far off that it doesn't really matter
March 29, 200618 yr Lenny Harris is actually a couple months younger the Joe, I think by 2 months or 3 months like said in a marlins telecast. i think he DOES make the team because a guy like that u do need his clubhouse presense and his sense of humor. he is also been clutch for us in the past when we've needed the most. i would be very upset if lenny didnt make the team, a guy like that u just cant lose especially in this ballclub
March 29, 200618 yr I don't know how anyone can knock Lenny Harris. This is a guy who has made his living hitting off the toughest pitchers in baseball. When he comes into a game to pinch-hit, he's usually facing the best relievers the other team has.. or a starting pitcher trying to go the distance. He's the All-Time leader in MLB history in pinch-hits, and he hit over .300 last year with 19 pinch-hits... I think this team needs Lenny, not only for his ability to get that hit off the bench, but he seems like a critical part of that clubhouse, especially this year with so many young guys... If he doesn't make the final roster, I will be very disappointed.
March 29, 200618 yr Jupiter Daily: Today's Lineup (3/29) Most eyes are going to be on that No. 8 hitter as they likely will be for the next several weeks, unless something changes. Tony La Russa, et. al., had a caucus with GM walt Jocketty for a long time this morning. Today's a breakpoint in spring -- consider Lenny Harris was just released by the Florida Marlins, one their beat writers just told me. Heading over to the blog to answer questions, post new entry. Thanks again to whomever put up the lineups yesterday. From the media bunker at RDS, Derrick -30-
March 30, 200618 yr Lenny was studly last year as a pinch hitter. But, what the hell, not like we're going anywhere. May as well give those ABs to the younguns. He was released today, though...according to today's game recap.
March 30, 200618 yr According to today's papers, Lenny was released because they wanted to go with younger guys! Well in any other business, you would have an age discrimination law suit. Not allowed to do that. Not that I think Lenny should have made the team but it was really because he would have to be paid too much money. There are idiots running this team...pure and simple. It's hard to believe how far the Marlins have fallen. Sorry if this seems negative...but I just find the whole thing so sad.
