  1. Time for Hanley to understand who is paying his contract....last I heard it was the Florida Marlins....
  2. I thought Resop had a good year... Big part of relief is not the numbers they put up, because a walk in one situation can be more damaging than a home run in another situation. It's your trust in them. That's what he needs to stop.....BB.....cannot give away free passes...needs an effective secondary pitch...working on his changeup in the offseason....
  3. Chris Aguila has been released from the Marlins as of today. That leaves 37 on the 40 man roster...
  4. There are some very intelligent stat people on this board and I wonder if they have any information as to how our "rookie bullpen relievers" stack up against the other 29 teams "rookie bullpen relievers". We are looking at the rookie relievers only here....thanks for the hard work involved in this....
  5. It's amazing how some of you are afraid to criticize Resop. It's ok...Forty4 is not going to jump out of your computer screen and hurt you. You are allowed to say Resop sucks just like you can say Messenger sucks or Abercrombie sucks. If that is your opinion, its ok and you are not an idiot. Resop has a bad habit of getting behind in counts and then throwing meatballs right down the middle. If you want to dispute that, THEN YOU DONT WATCH THE GAMES. He gets hammered just about everytime he pitches. He had 1 good inning about a week ago and then flamarlins.com put up a retarded article about how he is a reliable arm in out pen. His ERA was deceptively low for a while. Look at his batting avg allowed. Opponents are hitting .319 against him. That is awful. Even worse, his whip is 1.98 (before tonight). The only players even close (but still not as bad) to that horrific whip are Vargas, Petit, and Franklyn German. If the other team has a runner on base and you want the runner to score, bring in Resop. If you want to put a runner on base, bring in Resop. I'm sure even forty4 knows this. Amen.......he needs work and the experience....AAA is alot different from MLB....and I think we found that to be true with the starters this season as well.....initially they were horrible...then with more starts and a better understanding of hitters...they settled down and have done an admirable job.....everyone has their opinion....it makes threads very interesting to read....
  6. Even Rich and Tommy took a great little jab at Loria during the telecast when Rich mentioned that the bullpen had to be a top priority for next year. Tommy agreed and said if you?re going to build a team around this talented starting pitching you absolutely need to give them some help. He made an analogy of buying a great house and filling it with junk. Yes, definitely a ballpark deal firmly in place would be a dream come true! I didn't take that as a "great little jab" on Loria at all. Just an observation on where our weak points are. I'm quite sure the front office sees that we need a CFer and pen help and I am willing to bet they go out and try to get just that. At the right price of course. I guess it's open to interpretation but Loria is the one who "bought the house" and there was clearly frustration in Tommy's voice. He then added something about going ahead and springing for nice furniture and the plasma TV. If it was just an observation he could have worded it differently such as "they'll have to see who's available in the offseason", or something to that effect. In any case, that's the way I heard it. I can definetly see how it is being taken that way. But some of the pen problems are the position players. These rookies are just tired from the long season and the pressure. And it is glaringly showing. For instance I don't blame the pen for that 10th inning loss in Atlanta. How many outs did Josh, Reggie, and Hanley give them?? If Tommy was taking a jab then I think he is totally wrong for doing so. He sure hasn't been complaining all year while constantly talking up this bunch of rookies. Maybe he's just frustrated as well and overestimating the durablilty of a bunch of kids in a situation they have never been in before. I would agree with assessment....Hutton says alot of things he shouldn't and that does not bode well with Loria you can bet....Everyone is tired....there has been alot of built up pressure on this team to secure the wild card slot and it has not happened....now they have to play respectable ball and finish on a high note....
  7. We collapse under pressure. That is something these BOYS need to work on. remember the word ROOKIES...next season should be so much better
  8. NO FUTURE: Reggie Abercrombie Cody Ross Joe Borchard Wes Helms Matt Treanor Chris Aguila Eric Reed Brian Moehler Matt Herges Joe Borowski Randy Messenger Jason Vargas Sergio Mitre Jeff Fulchino I disagree on most of these guys. All can or will have a future and can be productive, it's just a matter of their roles being figured out. Reggie, Cody, and Borchard all have made meaningful contributions to the team at different times, whether it was last night's go ahead/game winning HR, doing the same for 2 runs off Roger Clemens, etc. I don't think any of the 3 should be the full time CF, so maybe we don't have room for all of them. But you can't treat them like they're not a part of the team's success when they've scored a lot of meaningful runs to tie or win games. We've seen what Moehler can do in long relief when he came in for Ricky a week ago. He can be effective in the right role. I'd like to think the same of Vargas & Mitre, but they both need to find consistency. Both of them have shown ability in the past. Consistency and finding a role though is what they need - be it as the lefty specialist or the mop-up/blow-out guy. And did Fulchino even really get a fair look? I can't even remember seeing him in more than one or two games. And I don't remember him getting lit up bad either. And Helms and Borowski have a future, either here or elsewhere, just depends on what they want. Helms has been easily our best clutch pinch hit option time and time again, and I really don't think that's too easy to find. And Borowski has done his job - 31/35 saves. That's almost half of our 66 wins this season. AT LONG LAST....SOMEONE WHO GIVES CREDIT AND PRAISE TO THE YOUNG ROOKIES NO MATTER HOW GOOD OR HOW BADLY THEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN THIS YEAR....THANK YOU FOR YOUR POSITIVE INPUT....
  9. vargas has a future with this team because he is lefty, no other reason...if he can ever prove on a regular basis that he can get guys out, he will be with the big team, until then, he is scrub who lefty who cant get guys out...and guys who cant get anyone out, i dont want a part of this staff, no matter how much anyone argues for him or puts up pointless stats(see abercrombie)...plain and simpley, if a guy sucks...you can tell...and it doesnt take someone getting paid for their opinion to tell you that...quite simply...if i had my way...i would have nothing to do with abercrombie, resop, messenger, mitre and vargas...they have proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that they arent major league players...are they the best guys on your back yard wiffleball league, sure...but they arent major league...some people need to get over that already Yae okya watevr yu sayd is rite....when's the wifle bal game in yur bakyrd?
  10. Im not to high on Chris Resop He has just as much of a future as Kensing or Vargas. Meaning?
  11. What is the status of Stokes? Is he on the DL? Stokes is good..back playing and actually had a couple of rbi's yesterday....have not heard if he is getting a call.....checked with my vested interest and he did not know anyone other than Andino and himself....and he is in flight to Milwaukee
  12. what is the point of this thread Opinion venting only....useless thread....
  13. :o Jupiter. Wow. Little harsh there? Don't think so...simply a matter of location...easier to send him there rather than to AA or AAA...for only a few days....
  14. Andino is headed to the club today....should be in St Louis for tonight's game....one other is waiting for the season to be over before he is able to leave...very very short on bullpen arms in AAA right now....and still 5 games to play..... 'other'? Could it be Poser Sirhc? Si senor

  16. Last year before the final home game the players gave their jerseys to the season ticket holders...if not mistaken

See ya in 2008, Logan. We'll be going for World Title #4 at that point. lol...hate to say it but NEXT! We have a bevy of RPs in the minors....Resop, Bostick, Tyler....come on down. GL to Logan and Carlos coming back strong! and all have proven what at the major league level? i don't care if all three throw 99 mph with filthy offspeed stuff...until they do it at this level they are irrelevant. resop has had his cup of coffee and has been ineffective due to a lack of control...i have no idea who the other two are (read about bostick, never seen him though), but if they were anywhere near as good as you try to make them out to be, they'd be pithing for the marlins...not the mudcats. Lack of control or lack of pitching while up at the MLB level...there's a huge difference.....if you pitch every 7 days your control will not be near as good as if you throw every second or third day....ERA for Resop is pretty respectable.....for such a short period of time....by the way he will be coming up in Sept....so we'll all see what he is all about resop had 9/5 bb/k ratio...atrocious, especially for a reliever. he got himself into alot of jams. true, he got out of them enough to keep his era at 3.46, but era doesn't tell half the story for a reliever. 1.85 whip is bad...anyway you slice it. you put him in a tight situation with runners on and that whip will cost you on the scoreboard. you don't just get handed an important role...you earn it. if he wants to pitch at this level he needs to learn to control his stuff, whether it be on 2 days rest or 43 days rest. if he does, he'll get the chance to pitch consistently. if he doesn't, he'll be back in albuquerque. you're probably right he'll be called up in a few days..but that doesn't mean he's a legitamate answer for our bullpen problems. until he improves his control, he'll be nothing more than a depth call-up. When you see Resop next time be sure to tell him that he has to earn his job in the bullpen....and that he is atrocious....I understand that the pitching coaching position is being vacated by Kranitz...you might want to put your name in for consideration....

  19. Does anyone have any scouting reports on these guys? I'm interested in what pitches each guy throws. Thanks in advance. Ross hurt his bicep muscle in last night's game and may be done for the remaining 7 games...the AAA bullpen is way short on arms right now....only 5 left in the bullpen...and no one coming up to AAA

Logan Kensing (elbow) is likely done for the season. Kensing felt pain in his elbow while playing catch on Monday and immediately booked an appointment to visit orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Tommy John surgery is a distinct possibility for the reliever. Source: Miami Herald Not looking good for him....according to my source....will know more tomorrow afternoon
  21. if he wants to pay for my tickets then ill go every god damn day. but until then he should shut his f***ing mouth. Besides the fact that I love this team more than anything, why would i spend $120 dollars on half way decent seats that give me neck spasms by the end of the game because i have it turned at a 90 degree angle for 3 hours, then 7 god damn dollars for a freaking beer, etc. I can honestly say there isnt another franchise i like more than the Marlins, but these players(anyone who speaks out against the fans) have to take a look at the situation... then speak. Welcome to MLB ticket prices and concession prices.....don't forget you get hit hard with parking before you have to worry about the gate admission
  22. Sept 4 last game for AAA....doubt they will send Mess down for a few days..let him stay up and continue to work with Harkey and Kranitz....find the problem and solve it....hopefully he doesn't have a dead arm....While I would love to see Resop up...I just don't think it's going to happen till after the AAA season
  23. I think a good question is what are you willing to give up to get one of these guys? Is there anyone who is untouchable or shouldn't be traded? cabrera, olsen, johnson, sanchez, willis are our only untradables. NOT! Everyone on the Marlins team is tradeable believe me....the problem is that they cannot afford to get rid of DTrain or Miguel for publicity reasons.......
  24. I want to see Resop get the same chance Mess has gotten. Now we're talking.....OPPORTUNITY is the keyword here....I did see where Resop did not throw tonight...third night off...what's brewing?
  25. i agree that he's playing like garbage, can't they just send him to the minors and bring up Respo or someone else (Fulchino). Fulchino would have to be put back on the 40 man roster....Resop may get a call up in Sept...time will tell....
