January 4, 200719 yr Ramirez to seek permission to finish winter ball Associated Press SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- NL Rookie of the Year Hanley Ramirez wants to return to his Dominican winter league team despite the Florida Marlins' request that he rest his injured shoulder. Hanley Ramirez Ramirez Ramirez strained his left shoulder playing for the Licey Tigers in the Dominican league's playoffs last week. He was examined Friday by Marlins physician Dr. Dan Kanell and placed on a shoulder-strengthening program. "I am going to call [the Marlins] to get permission to play," Ramirez said Tuesday night. "I think that my playing here in the Dominican Republic helped me win Rookie of the Year, so that's why I want to try to come back." Ramirez hit .292 for the Marlins last season with 17 homers, 59 RBI, 119 runs and 51 stolen bases. Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2719034
January 4, 200719 yr as much as i hate to see him play now....he is right....his attitude and love of the game makes him a better player....and i like that alot
January 4, 200719 yr he should only play if his shoulder is genuinely 100% okay. otherwise, he shouldn't be playing. if he isn't ready in time for ST, I'm not gonna be happy (nor will the marlins nor any of you guys).
January 4, 200719 yr Time for Hanley to understand who is paying his contract....last I heard it was the Florida Marlins....
January 4, 200719 yr It depends on the risks of hurting his shoulder again, because if it was just a sprain or something it couldnt get anyworse with some quick rehab/rest....it all depends on how he feels and he better not be lying because his season will be in doubt.
January 4, 200719 yr This is almost exactly like NFL players playing during the preseason. There is no point.
January 4, 200719 yr After Miguel Cabrera's "leadership" on this issue, I don't think we should be too suprised. So I guess besides Marlins players now playing winter ball against the team's wishes, we now have to deal with players who goto the press saying they want to play again after getting injured and being told by the Marlins their WL season is over? Hanley needs to shut it and just worry about preparing for ST and the 2007 season (which the Marlins have already said is not going to include more winter ball). Hopefully the Marlins do not bend for this as well. If they do, I'll lose some respect for Beinfest.
