Positives for the season opener?

Featured Replies

Well the Marlins played well on the pitching side, but we knew that would happen because of D-Train and the Astro's lousy offense. I was fearing a 1-0 loss. Hopefully it is a sign of Oswalt being kewl more than the Marlin's offense being lousy. I think it may be the former due to some nice hits by some of the young 'uns.

Cabrera looked bad all game offensively. If he would have been patient in that last at bat, we would have had men on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Oh well, it's just one game.

Positive: The users of MB.com are not freaking out after one loss.

Unfortunately I agree with The Swedeto some extent.

If we lose when Dontrelle pitches we are in trouble. Hopefully it was first game jitters for Ramirez. He also made a poor decision and a poor throw when he tried to get Biggio out at third.

Too many strike-outs with the bat on their shoulders.

Uggla's footwork looked awkward. He pushed off with the wrong foot for the attempted DP throw to first, and that reach toward second base with the ball in his hand instead of using his foot was hard to watch.

The next few games will be very interesting. Lets see how we do with our non-Dontrelle starters. Lets see if these kids settle down and play ball against the opposition and not against their nerves.

he was pretty patient in that last at-bat. he only swung at one pitch out of the strike zone. unfortunately that was strike three. he had just seen three or four straight 96-97 mph fastballs and he got fooled by the slider. it happens. lidge has nasty stuff.

i love how so many people think it's so easy to hit off oswalt. the swede is especially negative about the whole thing. i just wonder if he watched any other games yesterday and last night. plenty of teams looked worse than we did. and maybe oswalt was not totally on, but neither was willis and he was also able to hold them scoreless. that's what great pitchers do. when they don't have their best stuff they're still able to hold other teams down.

I saw no negatives for opening day. Hanley was shaky in the field but he will be fine. Johnson seemed to not trust his stuff to just got after batters...that will change.

We lost to Oswalt 1-0. With last years team we may have lost 1-0. Tomorrow will be tough to as Pettite is nasty. The team will become more relaxed and we will get it together.

Not bad guys....a loss yes...but 1-0 to the NL defending champs and half our team probably realized the game started about the 5th inning because of nerves.

No negatives? Since this is the positives thread I'll ignore that very strange comment and say that

the bullpen was very solid. If you had heard Hank Goldberg on 560 WQAM this morning you would have thought the bullpen gave up 9 runs but I thought Johnson,Borowski and Martinez looked hardcore out there.

Also, Jacobs looks VERY comfortable at the plate and the top two thirds of the line up had great AB's against the frontrunner for the Cy Young this year.

And finally, The Don is back.....forget the WBC......he kept his emotions in check and his defense was silly good.

By the way....not sure if any of you listen to 560 WQAM in South Florida but Hank Goldberg is a sham....the guy hates baseball and knows nothing about it. He talks about the Dolphins non stop in the middle of May when nobody cares about the Dolphins. If your going to be a sports talk radio host, do your homework and dont bash the only team in town that can take it all the way and bring home a championship you FAT TURD!

I agree with TheDon about Jacobs. He looked very relaxed at the plate and very confident. Some of the other guys seemed a bit tentative. He was our only hitter 1-6 that didn't strike out. I said it once and I'll say it again, Jacobs is going to have a tremendous season. ROY type year.

i'm expecting him to win rookie of the year.
