Rune
Just saw the preview for it during Matchstick men(which was great btw). It comes out this Christmas and hopefully will start a whole new interest in this country about The War versus Mexico. The war WE won btw, Santa Anna. Das Texan
what does the alamo have to do with the mexican american war 12 years later? the only coorelation has to do with the border dispute really. the alamo occured during texas' fight for independence, which occured almost by accident. the united states war against mexico was really the first armed imperialistic event of this nation. there is a 12 year difference here. Das Texan
on the united states/mexican war? the alamo didnt have that big of an effect on that event. maybe marginal...but not that much in reality.
g8trz2003
We kicked some Mexican a**! seriously though, I find it funny that America allowed Texas to SECEDE from Mexico, but not for South Carolina to SECEDE from the Union. I guess it's all a matter of who you're seceding from.

Even if it is only "marginal", a 16 year old comes out of that movie loving what he saw is going to look up The Mexican/American War because that's what The Alamo is assosiated with by most Americans. Das Texan
well texas wasnt really interested in independence at first... but due to some disagreements and other events, we see the independence movement for Texas. make no mistake the Americans wanted to control the Texan land. Granted to this day there is very little of that land they do control. but you are comparing apples to oranges. Texas seceded from Mexico so factor in the United States thirst for that land you can see why they are not going to say turn down Texas. Interesting though is that it took a good 4-5 years for Texas to be admitted into the Union...Houston had been attempting to get Texas into the Union for a long time but Congress never approved the Texas issue really. South Carolina seceded from the United States so they will be unhappy. So yup your right Furman. It all matters who you break away from. Das Texan
well most Americans are idiots. I hope this Alamo movie is historically correct. However I fear the line in the sand will still exist. Davy Crockett will still go down fighting like a hero. Jim Bowie will be bravely fighting on his deathbed. And there will be about 10,000 Mexicans as opposed to the 189 Texians. And yes....most Americans have no clue as to the history of this nation.
