What factual evidence have you presented as a rebuttal Shamrock? That he runs real fast? Everyone knows that. And as of right now, that isn't really helping him. He's not hitting, even if he was he is still your basic singles hitter since he seems nearly incapable of extra base hits, you've agreed that he takes bad routes(although, you are wrong to the degree he does...someone that fast doesn't have the ball hit over his head as much as he does), and I'm sure you'd agree that he has no arm.

Would you say that Abercrombie is a vialbe future option longterm in CF? I doubt that. But then I ask the question why you think Gathright will be? Abercrombie and Gathright are very similar in batting right now, and Abercrombie adds (much)better defense.

see? you've just proved it again. How can I possibly take you seriously when you advocate reggie as a more viable longterm option in CF than Gathright when Joey has had some success (276BA w/ 20 steals) at the major league level and tons of success in the minors, while reggie hasn't done squat above high A ball? You throw logic out the window...why am I still wasting my time? Stop f***ing exaggerating everything.

As for factual evidence, many scouting reports, statistics, comparables, etc have been presented to you with no affect on your position. You're beyond help and I'm OK with it.

Are you being serious?

Joey is 2 years younger than Reggie. He actually hit well in the minors(.316 career, as opposed to Reggie's .258)

I'll stop there, and this is coming from a huge Reggie fan and a big Joey hater.

Actually, theres never been a scouting report posted on here touting Gathright as even an average defender.

And I wasn't talking about whats done in the past. And I wasn't advocating Abercrombie as a better longterm option in CF, as I dont think either of them will amount to anything at the MLB level. I was talking right now, and Gathright isn't hitting worth a crap. Not much above Abercrombie's level. So, as of right now...right this very instant...their value is pretty much the exact same. You must of misread what I wrote, I never said either was a long term option. They have both stunk up the league so far this season.

Unless you go by my small ascertation that Abercrombie plays better defense that I think he should be here for years and years.

You could go out there, Mr. Shamrock, and play better defense(although I doubt your as BLAZING FAST...which, honestly, has been your only real arguing point)...but by me saying one is better than the other doesn't change the fact that neither of them are ready for the MLB level.

I won't take the time again to prove all your exaggerations as incorrect. Go look for yourself at Gathright's numbers from his minor league career. He's not merely BLAZING SPEED, so stop saying it. I won't look up scouting reports that've already been posted for you time and again. Oh, what the hell, I guess I'll post one just to shut your mouth, although I'm sure it won't. And please don't tell me you're making judgements on a guy who is not getting to play regularly and who has very few ABs on the season...his slow start is not the same as reggie's because he had some success last season and lots of success in the high minors, while reggie has had none. There's no reason to think reggie will turn it around, while it's reasonable to think Gathright will.

3rd ranked Rays prospect of 2005

3. JOEY GATHRIGHT, of Age: 23 B-T: L-R Ht: 5-10 Wt: 170

Drafted: HS--LaPlace, La., 2001 (32nd round) Signed by: Benny Latino

Background: Gathright?s progression through the system has been as rapid as his world-class speed. He reached the big leagues midway through his third pro season, less than one year after earning rookie-of-the-year honors in the high Class A California League.

Strengths: His offensive style evokes memories of Vince Coleman, though Gathright has more hitting ability. Perhaps the fastest runner in baseball, he ranked third in the Triple-A International League in steals despite playing just 60 games there. Gathright possesses the baseball skills to put his speed to use. He's beginning to master the art of slapping the ball on the ground and using his legs to get on base. He also has outstanding range in center field.

Weaknesses: To become an effective leader, Gathright must work counts better and draw more walks. He has trouble getting around on inside fastballs. He'll be a better basestealer once he learns how to read pitchers better. His arm strength and accuracy are below average.

The Future: Shortly after Gathright got to Triple-A during the first half of the 2005 season, the Rays opened discussions on a long-term contract with him. He's on the verge of starting for the Devil Rays, though he may shift to left field with Rocco Baldelli in center.

It's also interesting that Gathright has a 7BB/2K ratio to start the year in 27AB, which tells me he's getting very unlucky so far. Putting the ball in play quite a bit, but they're just not getting through. His OPS is double what Abercrombie's is at this point as well, making another of your points false. Again, I'm not saying we should trade Olsen for him, but I really wish your blatant and ridiculous exaggerating would cease. It's quite irritating to everyone with half a brain.

Just curious...what would you be willing to give up in order to acquire Gathright shamrock?

Im glad we didn't trade Olsen for Gathright but Gathright has impressed me lately with his ability to draw walks. Yes he is hitting .163 but the Walk to K ratio tells me he's been more unlucky than bad. Now I still don't trade Johnson, Sanchez, Petit, Olsen and im iffy if we should trade Nolasco for him. If the Devil Rays lower their trade demands to something more like a package of Mildren, Tyler, Messenger, Kensing, Pinto, Bostick then great I would pull the trigger without any hesitation.
