April 18, 200620 yr NFL Network's Adam Shefter reports there are "legitimate reasons" to believe the Texans will not draft Reggie Bush with the first pick of the NFL Draft. Shefter cites multiple sources from inside and outside of Reggie Bush's camp that the Texans are more likely to draft Mario Williams or trade down. The Texans haven't approached Bush about a possible contract and key members of the organization didn't meet Bush when he was in town. This could be your typical pre-draft smokescreen, but Shefter was adamant this wasn't the case. Need-wise, it makes plenty of sense http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playernews.asp?sport=NFL I have a feeling this is going to be one of the most entertaining drafts of the last few years.
April 18, 200620 yr The Texans have a lot of needs, and I know Super Mario is a beast, but they don't need a DE that badly do they?
April 18, 200620 yr Williams stick sure has risen, i remember at one point he was a 10-15 pick now hes a potential #1 and wont even slip out of the top 5. I just cant see the texans passing on Bush
April 18, 200620 yr :o .....i thought he'd be a lock......wouldn't surprise me to see vince young go there either... when is the draft?
April 18, 200620 yr It's a smoke screen. If the Texans stay at #1, THEY WILL TAKE REGGIE BUSH. This is a typical ploy as the draft as near for them to either: A) Help lower the price on Reggie Bush's contract. If they go out and admit there is nobody else they are considering, Bush will be able to hold the upper hand on the pre-draft contract negotiations and twist the Texans are for extra money. There hope is by bringing in Mario's name, they will be able to have some kind of leverage against Bush and lower the contract he expects somewhat. B) Potentially entice teams that either want Williams (Saints, Packers, Jets, etc....) or Bush to trade up and give more than they would have before. It is a smart move by the Texans, but one that is very predictable. I wouldn't read too much into it.
April 18, 200620 yr The draft is the 29th and 30th...next weekend. I hope my Jaguars take Leonard Pope....he's an animal. Texans should trade down and select Vince Young. I have a feeling that the best RB in the draft won't be Bush- I think it will be DeAngelo Williams.
April 18, 200620 yr I believe they are looking to move back in the draft, they are opening it up so everyone knows they have interest in multiple players and choices. So people cant just deal with N.O. under the assumption that Houston will just take Bush. Also for the reason Fan already brought up of the contract as well. I think they trade back with the jets and select marion or d'brickshaw there

Yep, anything you hear the last few weeks before the draft is just a smokescreen to try and bait a team into thinking something.
