Classic rock is my favorite genre of rock, but where really amazing music currently lies is in the genre that is referred to as jam bands. Studio albums are not the best parts about these bands, rather their live shows are what to listen to. Amazing talent and complex music based heavily on improvisation, much like jazz (another favorite of mine). If you want to check out some of these bands, check out Archive.org or bt.etree.org. Check out North Mississippi Allstars, Umphrey's McGee, Perpetual Groove, Tea Leaf Green, String Cheese Incident, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Widespread Panic, Honeytribe, just to name a few. Then there is always Phish, as well as original jam bands like the Allman Brothers Band and the Grateful Dead. Great music does exist today but you have to seek it out.
