He took a clear substance that he 'didn't know' what it was. He admitted to that in a testimony. Sure Barry, Durrrrrrrrrrr. I'm around body builders and atheletes every day and everyone of those guys knows exactly what is going into their bodies regardless if it is coming straight from them, or through a trainer. Anyone that values their body (and an athelete definitely fits into that category) doesn't just put a foreign substance in their body for the hell of it or because someone recommended it to them. Anyone that can believe that he just started taking this stuff, never asking a question and not caring has the intelligence to be duped by a Slylock Fox Sunday comic strip.

 

It's pretty gay that in 1998 we celebrated two guys...Sosa and McGwire...who both took steroids including McGwire who they found stuff in his locker yet we all laughed it off and went in awe as he hit more roid induced homers....Bonds deserves a celebration especially since baseball turned a blind eye to the rampant steroid use....if they had tried to stop it before then they could not celebrate it.

 

If we would have known what we know about Bonds now for Mac and Sosa, around the time that was happening for them, it wouldn't be the same. It's not a comparable situation.

What is there to celebrate? He is going from 3rd to 2nd. Are they going to stop every game when people pass old record and move into 5th all time? Some people had good points, if someone breaks 61 or just passes the old consecutive game record it doesnt mean anything anymore.

I just dont know why this is news to begin with... I see no reason for them to celebrate him going from 3rd to 2nd but I dont know why MLB had to come out and say they werent planning to celebrate him

Why does Giambi publicly apologize to the 'alleged' testimony then? What's the point of that?

Bonds never admitted to taking any steroids. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the part of the testimony that has been miscontrued went like this:

 

Bonds testified that he had received and used clear and cream substances from his personal strength trainer, Greg Anderson, during the 2003 baseball season but was told they were the nutritional supplement flaxseed oil and a rubbing balm for arthritis, according to a transcript of his testimony reviewed by The Chronicle.

 

Federal prosecutors confronted Bonds during his testimony on Dec. 4, 2003, with documents indicating he had used steroids and human growth hormone during a three-year assault on baseball's home run record, but the Giants star denied the allegations.

 

Open to interpretation whether what he took was steroids? Sure.

 

But did he ever admit to taking any actual "steroid"? No.

Of course he didn't admit to taking a steroid, but he did admit to taking what his trainer at the time, Greg Anderson, supplied to him.

 

Anderson plead guilty to sterioid distribution and during his time using the San Francisco Giants facilities, he was known as a steroid supplier.

 

But yeah, he was Bonds' right hand man in training because he had the 'arthritic cream and flax seed oil' hook-up.

Selig announced that Barry Bonds will not be honored when he passes Babe Ruth for 2nd on the list for most career home runs. In my opinion, this is an absoloute outrage.

 

I realize he isn't about to pass Hank for the record but when you break a record that belongs to an icon like Babe Ruth, one of the most recognized and successful professional baseball players the country has seen, your accomplishment should be recognized.

 

Even though all of us know the truth about Bonds' steroid issue, nothing has been proven. This man is playing baseball legally and just because he is being investigated for using steriods, that doesn't legally make him a guilty man. Therefore, this accomplishment should be recognized.

 

This is an outrage and it makes me sick that Bonds will not be recognized for this. Regardless, he will go down in history as one of the greatest home run hitters of all time. And his stats will always be around to prove it.
