May 12, 200620 yr On the second day of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), it becomes clear that Nintendo's upcoming Wii console grabs the attention of show attendees at a much faster pace that the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360. While Nintendo has created an impressive booth with 27 games running on even more stations, it is nearly impossible for most attendees to get a glimpse at the titles. A few minutes after the show opened, Nintendo estimated the wait to reach a game station at about four hours. By 10 am, the wait had increased to six hours. By our estimates, there were at least 1000 people in line waiting, especially for a first look at Ubisoft's Red Steel first person shooter. 123inkjets.com - Printer Ink, Toner, & More Nintendo informed us that the playing time for each attendee is limited to five to 15 minutes, depending on the title. The last person standing in line mentioned that he feels that the Wii console "is the biggest thing at the show," but he still did not intend to spend most of the time of his "first E3" waiting in line. 30 minutes later, when still had not made even an inch forward, he decided to leave. Interestingly, there is hardly any wait at the Sony and Microsoft booth. People can test drive Xbox 360 and PS3 titles within five minutes of wait or less. http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/05/11/nintendo..._thunder_at_e3/
May 12, 200620 yr The only thing that I'm kind of disappointed about the Wii is that it will continue to use those stupid friend codes to go onto the Nintendo Wifi connection. Everything else about the system and the games has been absolutely amazing!!!
May 12, 200620 yr I'm still not convinced, I gotta try this thing for myself to prove that it isn't a gimmick. I just can't see how you can play games all the time like that, it seems very annoying. I hope i'm wrong but I don't want to be swinging my arms when I usually play games to relax.

I think this is going to be more of a tool for developers to use. On a side note, I'm pumped at the thought of finally being able to play first person shooters the way I've always wanted to.

Well from what a lot of people are saying, you don't need to wave your arm all over the place to get your character to move. Sometimes all it takes is a flick of the wrist and you can get it to do what it is you want it to do. I don't blame you for being pessimistic about it cause alot of people were about it. However if you read some of the previews of the games being shown, alot of people are saying that after a few minutes of getting used to it, it almost because second nature to them. I wonder when the first demos will be out?? :mischief2
May 12, 200620 yr The Wii is going to be absolutly awesome and way more affordable. ( And Nintendo is trying to keep at $50, unlike Microsoft and Sony). About the motion sensor, it makes FPS's way more better and would make for finally a real video game lightsaber duel. However, games like Super Smash Bros Brawl will have classic control style.

May 12, 200620 yr If I buy it, it will most likely only be for zelda, overall the quality of games on nintendo uniquely are normally worse then those on xbox and ps2 for adults. I always found nintendo gamecube to be more for kids. Why I gave it to my niece after beating crystal chronicles and the zelda pack

That is why with Wii they are going to have to change how they do things or continue to lose market share. I think the fact that the PS3 is so expensive will sway people into buying an Xbox 360 and possibly the Wii as their second console. Mario, Zelda and Metroid were all great as kids (and I'm still anticipating all of them for Wii), but I would also like to play games that are geared towards me and with the GameCube only Eternal Darkness and the Resident Evil series comes to mind.

Do you see other compaines changing their niche just because what was once their market is no longer their market? No. Nintendo isnt exactly hemmoraging money. They are marketing toward the younger audience, with the mindset to get people 'hooked' on their characters : mario, link, samus, etc and then as they are older, they will still buy these systems simply to contine on with the adventures of these same characters. Its an intersting business model, if they start to do things that are more geared toward an older audience, they run the risk of hurting their #1 market. Like it or not, thats how it is.
May 12, 200620 yr Their strategy, if that's what it is, worked on me. I can't imagine buying one of those other systems and not having access to a Mario or Zelda game. It would seem completely pointless.

It would seem completely pointless. in their wars with sega that wasnt their goal, but the industry was different then. as the playstation appeared and later the xbox, nintendo realized what they had with their characters and went along with the idea of marketing as their niche to a younger audience and the customers they had already captured through the years. whether or not they admit this as their marketing philosophy it is and its quite easy to pick up on.
May 16, 200620 yr dumb question, but would sports games still be available on the Wii and be comparable to the other next gen systems? i'm going to be in the market for one of these 3 and all I primarily play is sports games and first person shooters - if the motion control is good and the sports play is on par then for the price the call for me may be nintendo and then I can even get nostalgic with some of the old characters
May 16, 200620 yr Here's a video from E3 showing the madness that went on for the Nintendo. http://www.sportech.info/2006/05/13/to-teh-nintendo/
