June 12, 200620 yr I'd rather have a better player than both, but I can live with the current situation for now (come on, you knew it was coming)
June 13, 200620 yr No, you're right. We should obviously expect a catcher who bats .400 and averages 40 homers and 130 rbi's a year, I mean it's not like those catchers are hard to come by... Think about it, there are only a handful of good hitting catchers, the ones I can name off the top of the head are Mauer, Ramon Hernandez, and McCann. Let's be thankful for what we have, which by baseball standards is slightly above average.
June 13, 200620 yr i'd rather have lo duca. yes, olivo's been hitting well lately. he has a better arm than lo duca. but lo duca does block balls better than olivo. the main thing though is olivo's career batting average is .236 compared to lo duca's .285.......big difference there.
June 13, 200620 yr I was pretty low on Olivo coming into the season & if this keeps up I'm really going to have to do a 180 on him. His arm is top-notch, he's providing just enough pop at the plate to be a positive, and his speed on the basepaths has helped in a few situations as well. If he was a tad better at blocking balls & plays at the plate I'd be ecstatic about the job he's done. As it is I'm already fine with the Olivo/Treanor combo for the near future. Sure we'd love to have a top prospect catcher, who wouldn't? if we could have Treanor's D with Olivo's Arm+hitting, i'd be so happy well put :thumbup
