That's pretty much how I feel after having seen Oz, probably not to the degree that you are talking about but it's definitely like that.

Daniels was an undercover narc who used a Jamaican accent.

Carver was a new prison guard who was a bitch, snapped and eventually became crazy and killed while in prison.

Norman Wallace was the temporary warden in one of the seasons.

Bodie was an inmate.

Also alot of other characters I had seen as recognizable characters on other things. D'angelo was in Gangs of New York. Avon was in Remember the Titans. Elena McNulty plays a polar opposite and much larger character on Rescue Me. Johnny was in the movie Kids.

Probably alot more and it really tripped me out when I first started watching. HBO really likes to use character actors, which I think is needed for a show like this because the main character isn't a single actor it is the city of Baltimore and any more known of an actor would take something away from it's realism.

I'm not a fan of the show or anything but I just read on futoncritic that they gave it an early renewal for another season.

Yeah, Mabdul posted that on the last page.

Another week, another fantastic episode.

I actually liked this week's episode better then last week in true 'The Wire' form.

Writer shows one of his greatest strengths as a writer/creator in this episode with two scenes of dialogue. Daniel and Pearlman's conversation describing Lester was just awesome as was showing the citizens watching the debate at the end. Cutty turns it to a football game and Namond switching to his video game as the debate turns to education.

Some fans might fin Carcetti's dialogue to be over the top, bloated, or too much but I absolutely love them. One of my favorite parts of last season and this season.

Obviously the money laundering iunvestigation and Royce's BJ is going to figure in heavily before the primaries. The behind the scenes should get very interesting.

I love how Wee-Bey is Namond's dad. Any chance we get to see Wee-Bey after his absolutely amazing lines in Season 1 is a plus to me. Simon does a fantastic job of inter-weaving storylines realistically.

I was suprised Marlo actually talked on his phone but he's definitely less paranoid then Avon and String were. His body count hider is ingenious though.

I might buy the next episode instead of waiting because I'm even more stoked for it.

Season 4 goes on sale today just in time before Season 5 starts.

To those who didn't watch it when it aired, Season 4 is absolutely amazing and probably ranks #2 for me.

Amazon has it for $38.99 and Best Buy has it for $44.99.

Is it in hi-def?

If so, it is getting added to my Christmas list.

J/C, which season is your favorite?

I don't think they have a hi-def version being sold.

Season 2 is my favorite, but season 4 is a close second.

Season 2 is my favorite as well.

That sucks they aren't releasing it in Blu-Ray right now.

I need to rewatch Season 4 before I can rank it properly. It's anywhere between #1 and #3. Can't wait for Season 5; kinda disappointed McNutty is boozing again. Matter of time before he cheats on Beadie. That rapscallion!

Season 5 Promos:

OMAR

MCNULTY

CARCETTI

MARLO

Amazon.com is hosting prequel clips that let us know a little more about the lives of some characters before the show starts. Personally, the Omar prequel is my favorite. Though, I don't think I could have seen the first meeting of Bunk and McNulty going any other way. I also see Young Prop Joe as a more sinister, but equally entrepreneurial, version of Randy.

Here they are:

Omar (1985)

Bunk and McNulty (2000)

Proposition Joe (1962)

Aw yeah. Season 5 premiere is up on my OnDemand. I've been rewatching Season 4 this week, and I still have the finale to go, but later tonight, it's on.

I just finished watching season 1 of The Wire. I can not believe that it took me so long to get into this show.

A few things about the show.

1. Omar -- This guy has to be the most intriguing character on the show.

2. Avon vs Stringer -- Avon is the top guy due to family lines. Stringer is definitely the man in charge. He runs it all.

3. McNulty the character has to be one of the biggest asses that I have ever come across. Maj. Rawls is hilarious and so is the Sgt. in homicide, I forget his name.

4. WeBei was really hilarious in the final episodes when he is taking the rap for all the murders.

I am going to plunge into Season 2 as soon as my girl finishes Season 1.

It's funny how much the show has changed since Season 1. I love Season 1, it's one of my favorite seasons of a TV show ever (although only my 3rd favorite Wire season), but it seems almost simplistic compared to the seasons that follow. It was pretty much a cops and robbers show, a great cops and robbers show, and one that was notable for giving equal play to both sides of the law, and displaying the ambiguities that kind of blur the line between the two sides, but still, it was a cops and robbers show. It's been mesmerizing to watch the show slowly expand into the other aspects of the city. If you were to skip ahead and watch the premiere of Season 5, you couldn't be blamed for wondering what the hell has happened to your show. So, with that in mind, I'll tell you what I tell everyone else...approach Season 2 with patience and an open mind. The focus radically shifts, but, for me, the experience is ultimately more rewarding than Season 1.

I'm not gonna talk about the Season 5 episodes before they air on Sunday nights. I'll just say that the Season 5 premiere felt pretty much like business as usual, with the same quality you've come to expect from the show. As far as the news room stuff goes, it's a somewhat similar experience to the early docks stuff in Season 2, a lot of faces and lingo to learn, and, no, they don't make it easy on you. I probably won't know who half these people are until Episode 5, but that's what makes rewatching this show so rewarding.

I am a little passed halfway in season 3 now and the show really hasnt lost a beat. I am wondering am I the only person that truly hates McNulty's character. I know he is the 'main' cop character but I really cant stand the guy.

Right now in Season 3 lots of stuff is happening. Stringer is freaking out because people are looking into D's death not as a suicide. Avon could careless about clean money and being rich, he just wants his corners. McNulty went behind Daniels' back, what a shocker, and Carcetti is getting ready to run against the incumbent mayor.

I really liked Season 2. From what I understand it is universally considered the worst season but I really enjoyed it.

Season 2 is really the love or hate season. Most people either rank it first or last. I've never seen anyone rank Season 3 as first, so I generally think of that as the "worst" season. It's my least favorite anyway.

McNulty is hardly in Season 4, you'll be pleased to know.

Find me a Wire fan that saw the most recent episode and isn't devastated.

It's ruined my week.
