July 21, 200620 yr It was announced today by producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment, that the 22nd James Bond adventure will be released by Columbia Pictures on May 2, 2008 with Daniel Craig reprising the role of the legendary British secret agent. The story for the latest James Bond film produced by the franchise holders, EON Productions has yet to be announced. "As we wrap production on 'Casino Royale' we couldn't be more excited about the direction the franchise is heading with Daniel Craig. Daniel has taken the origins of Ian Fleming's James Bond portraying, with emotional complexity, a darker and edgier 007," said Wilson and Broccoli. Source
July 21, 200620 yr Coolness. But I'm not entirely sure it was a great idea to announce this BEFORE the first movie is reviewed and seen by the people of America. They have no reason to believe it will definitely be a hit. That's my opinion, at least. It could bomb, and they already have #2 on tap.

It's a James Bond movie, of course it'll be a hit (at least financially, not necessarily critically). This could also mean that MGM is very confident that Casino Royale is a great movie. I'd love to see something new and slightly topical with ol' Jimmy B.

Regardless, I am very excited about it. And to see if there will ever be a Bond game quite as groundbreaking and fun as Goldeneye.
September 1, 200619 yr Author Bond is moving back to November. Columbia Pictures confirmed Thursday that "Bond 22" -- the yet-to-be-named Bond film that will be produced after November's "Casino Royale" -- will open Nov. 7, 2008, rather than the original date of May 2, 2008. Sony Pictures Entertainment vice chairman Jeff Blake said the studio, along with partners MGM and British production company EON Prods., are in talks to bring on a new director after Roger Michell ("Notting Hill") bowed out of the project. No new names have been mentioned. The new date also gives the filmmakers the standard two years to complete the next film -- the usual time between Bond movies. "Eighteen months was a very short window," Blake said. "We're going to stay the course." Daniel Craig, who will be seen for the first time in the fall as the newest James Bond, already has signed for a repeat performance for the 22nd Bond film. Source

June 20, 200719 yr I really liked Craig in Casino royale, i think he makes a very good bond except sometimes he reminds me of Jason Stratham.
June 20, 200719 yr The main reason I posted this is because a director was finally named to replace Martin Campbell. This is the biggest movie that Forster has done, and a major departure from his lower-key existential and independent films that he has done in the past. However, the fact that they are all very highly acclaimed (except maybe Stranger than Fiction) makes me feel better.
June 20, 200719 yr Stranger Than Fiction was great. I loved it. Not sure how he'll do with Bond based on that one movie, but who knows.
January 24, 200818 yr how often to horrible moves get a second film? I am sure in the economic scheme there is definitely a way for this to work or else the studio wouldn't invest into a second movie.
January 24, 200818 yr how often to horrible moves get a second film? I am sure in the economic scheme there is definitely a way for this to work or else the studio wouldn't invest into a second movie. This would be the 22nd in the James Bond series. It's the most profitable franchies ever (adjusted for inflation). Casino Royale received lots of acclaim. To answer your question, horrible movies often do get sequels if their predecessor was profitable enough. Casino Royale was actually pretty freaking great and definitely revitalized the series.

I was mkaing a point that even bad movies get second chances a good franshise should get more and can sign on for more than they are releasing. Also, I hate the bond movies, but on a plane to SF I had the chance or was forced to watch Casino Royale and to be honest it was awesome.
January 26, 200818 yr Casino Royale did for the Bond franchise what Batman Begins did to the Batman franchise for me. It took away a lot of the camp and added a ton of grit. If this is even 90% of the movie Casino Royale was then this will rock.

If this is even 90% of the movie Casino Royale was then this will rock. I agree completely. However, in the case of the Bond movies, I didn't mind the camp that much. It was part of the experience.
