August 28, 200620 yr Raiders sign QB George after long hiatus NFL.com wire reports ALAMEDA, Calif. (Aug. 28, 2006) -- The Oakland Raiders signed Jeff George to a contract, bringing back a player who hasn't thrown an NFL pass in five seasons. George, the No. 1 overall pick by Indianapolis in 1990, joined the team in time for Aug. 28's afternoon practice. He previously played for the Raiders in 1997-98, starting 23 games and throwing 33 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. It is not immediately clear what his role will be on the Raiders, who already have Aaron Brooks, Andrew Walter and Marques Tuiasosopo on the roster. George played with the Colts from 1990-93. He was in Atlanta from 1994-96, then spent two seasons with Oakland and one with Minnesota before joining the Redskins in 2000, first as a backup. He was signed by Seattle as insurance midway through the 2002 season, but didn't play. Chicago signed him late in the 2004 season, but he never played for the Bears either. George, known for his strong arm and clashes with coaches, has a 46-78 career record as a starter and has never lasted longer than four years with any one of them. George hasn't played since 2001, when he was cut after two games with the Redskins. In his last two games with Washington, George had a quarterback rating of 34.6, completing 23 of 42 passes with three interceptions. In his next-to-last game with Washington, he and coach Marty Schottenheimer had an animated sideline discussion after George committed four turnovers and was removed from the game. George also had a sideline argument with coach June Jones when he was with the Atlanta Falcons in 1996, and the team suspended him and then cut him. George played well his first season in Oakland, throwing for 3,917 yards and 29 touchdowns in 1997. He struggled with injuries the following season, starting only seven games, and was replaced the following season by Rich Gannon, who was a better fit in coach Jon Gruden's West Coast offense. source
August 28, 200620 yr A better option than Aaron Brooks. you're an idiot in all seriousness, do you have a thing against African American QBs? Vick, Brooks, Young...
August 28, 200620 yr No. I just think Young is slightly overrated. Vick is the most overrated QB in history(if you can even call him a QB). And Brooks has pretty much always sucked...as I said, they should of saved money and started a better QB in Walter. At least Young has shown some ability to pass, but the run and gun style of play just doesn't suit me...espicially when Vick and Brooks are below average passers. I never have anything but nice things to say about McNabb, McNair, Leftwich, or any others. And how does saying Brooks sucks make me an idiot exactly? He was in the KKK at one point. No I wasn't.
August 28, 200620 yr He was in the KKK at one point. :notworthy As for the signing :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol does anything else need to be said?
August 28, 200620 yr For the last time...I was never in the KKK. I never even wanted to join the KKK, just wanted college money. I am not a racist. George has a better career completion % and QB rating than Brooks.

August 28, 200620 yr Been a while, and I might of been jumping the gun saying he is a better option than Brooks...doesnt change the fact that Brooks shouldnt be starting for an NFL team. Raiders should go with Walter.
August 28, 200620 yr Aaron Brooks does suck a lot and Jeff George had some success with Randy Moss in Minnesota, so I tend to agree with Spike. I watched the Saints-Dolphins game last year and was flabbergasted by how flat-out awful the guy was. Made me glad the Fins had Ray Lucas and Jay Feidler.
August 29, 200620 yr Vick is the most overrated QB in history(if you can even call him a QB). He's up there, but not as overrated as Joe Namath or Brett Favre It's going to be fun ragging on all the Raider fans I know about this
August 29, 200620 yr Vick is the most overrated QB in history(if you can even call him a QB). He's up there, but not as overrated as Joe Namath or Brett Favre and here we go...
August 29, 200620 yr How the hell is a 3 time MVP and player 2nd all-time in passing yards, completions, and touchdowns overrated? Or is this another one of your mindless statements that you drop then leave with no backing or realistic explanation?
August 29, 200620 yr Vick is the most overrated QB in history(if you can even call him a QB). He's up there, but not as overrated as Joe Namath or Brett Favre and here we go... Brett Favre is good, and there's no dispute that he's a Hall of Famer, but he's not on the level of guys like Montana, Unitas, Elway, Young, Bradshaw, etc...if he played for any other team, nobody would consider him on the level of those guys. As for Namath, he was a mediocre QB with one great game...that one game and his acting roles outweighed that he just wasn't a good QB...he threw 173 touchdowns and 220 interceptions
August 29, 200620 yr I agree about Namath, but Favre? Come on. Must be that Green Bay large market media bias again.
August 30, 200620 yr I think Favre is one of the all time greats, personally. That game right after his father passed away might be one of the greatest QB performances I have ever seen. It brought a tear to my eye.
August 30, 200620 yr Author As for the signing :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol does anything else need to be said? Not really, no.
