September 25, 200620 yr Howard has done this with a lot of protection around him. Cabrera's doing it with zero around him. For the most part Rollins .813 Utley .909 Howard 1.093 Burrell .867 Dellucci .915 / Lot's of punks hitting .725-.775 Hanley .821 Uggla .822 Cabrera .994 Willingham .863 Jacobs . 803 (Ross/Helms hit .900+ vs LHP) So Utley is better then Uggla. That's about it. Howard had Abreu's OBP around him for the first half of the year, but the HR binge began after he was traded. Let's just try and be fair about it. Cabrera had some lineup protection even though they were "rookies." I'm taking Cabrera 10 times outta 10, but this is a weak argument in discussing this two. Lineup protection. bah!
September 25, 200620 yr I don't think we can look at the players around Cabs (Uggs, Willingham, Hanley, Jacobs), look at their numbers, and say "He has protection." Our rookies, as well as they've done, are not established names (yet) in baseball. The pitchers who have faced Cabrera this year will never pitch to Miggy if they can pitch to the rookies around him. Remember about a week ago? Willingham had a homer and a double in the game, and they still intentionally walked Cabs to face him. Even though Burrell is having a very average/below average year, he's still more feared than Willingham.
