Pedro Has Torn Calf Muscle, Out For Postseason

Featured Replies

Only a Mets fan could turn something like a season ending injury for Pedro into a GOOD thing.

lol

Maybe because Met fans have been watching their team the entire year and realize Pedro has not done a thing for them since May (even in May, he had 0, yeah, that is right, ZERO wins). Maybe because Met fans just watched three crappy Pedro starts back-to-back-to-back and realize there is no way he could possibly help the team in the postseason with the way he was pitching.

Anything can happen in the playoffs.

And has that same Mets fan been watching the last ten days?

Or thought about how Philly could have closed the gap if Pedro's 9 wins were not there for that hot-start April...

Pedro - May Stats

0-1, 2.14 ERA - The Mets are up 5 games on June 1st

Pedro - June Stats

2-3, 6.23 ERA - The Mets are up 11.5 games on July 1st

Pedro - July Stats

1-0 (one start), 6.00 ERA - The Mets are up 13 games on August 1st

Pedro - August Stats

1-1, 5.65 ERA - The Mets are up 16 games on Sept. 1st

You keep pointing to the fact that he helped get them off to a fast start. Indeed, he did. But I'll keep pointing to the fact that they pulled away from everybody else when he was hurt/not pitching well.

I fail to see how that disproves my assertion that the Mets would be in serious serious trouble if not for their fast start in April.

They had the division, realistically, locked up in June when the Braves and Phillies couldn't buy a win and the Marlins still had to climb out of the hole they dug themselves.

Without the Pedro of April, the Mets are in a far different position coming down the stretch, far different. Anyone who says that "Pedro didn't get them here" overlooks the value of his starts at the start of the year. Beg, borrow or steal, those 9 wins of his are still more than all but 2 other pitchers on this vaunted  Mets' staff.

I didn't say the opinion wasn't warranted or didn't 'hold weight' I just find it funny how people are talking down to the team with the best record in the NL.

I'm not gonna sit around dogging the Yankees, Twins, Tigers, or A's when my team has been done for a month.

yeah because people arent entitled to an opinion..

"hey your team is in last place, you cant say anything"

yeah that has everything to do with a discussion.. i mean not only do I cheer for my favorite team because I want them to do well, but also because it means that I can argue with someone about baseball topics..really makes sense..

that point of view gets used so much, and every time it seems so worthless to me

just so retarded how people say that.. like someone's argument would carry more weight if their team was in first place.. just laughable.

Laughable? That is your opinion. You're team finished in 3rd, so you're opinion doesn't count, sorry.

But hey, improve the bullpen and hitting with RISP and maybe it will next year.

but what does it matter.. If my team was in the Wild Card I would still say the mets rotation going into the playoffs does not impress me.. If my team is in last place I would say the same thing. My teams location in the standings has nothing to do with people's opinions. I personally think it is retarded that people think that way. Don't get me wrong, good for the mets and other teams that they get to play in october while the marlins dont, however, i just fail to see the connection between someone's opinion and their favorite team's record. Hell should I claim I'm a Twins fan all of sudden, then it is ok?

its just discussions about baseball who cares about records.. I mean if jeter went down with a season ending injury would you not say anything regarding their playoff chances because they finished ahead of the sox in the standings?

My comment wasn't even dealing with opinions.

You twisted it.

Smack talk is best used in sports by fan's of a team whose team is actually good. You can talk smack when your team sucks or has gotten beaten by the team you are talking about but that would simply make you a tool.

Again, it wasn't about opinions.

Chillax.

Yes, then it would be ok! (sarcasm)

I agree with you on the issue, I always found it funny too.

but isnt everyone that is posting in this thread that the mets chances have diminished because of pedro's injury their personal opinion?

Yes, and WTF does that have to do with me saying I don't like when people talk smack when their own team sucks?

well i posted my that it shouldnt matter whether a team sucks if a person has an opinion on the matter. You then said it wasnt about opinions and i "twisted it".

I then said that all the posts here are opinions, and obviously that has nothing to do with anything.

edit- but whatever, we will have to agree to disagree on the matter here I guess.

Your great bullpen better be ready when your starters only go 4 or 5.

Bam.

That's what I responded to.

Talk about making a big deal out of nothing.

ok, still dont see how his opinion loses its "worth" because his team is worse off than the mets? but whatever.
