November 24, 200619 yr Per ESPN Radio Sportscenter..... 6 years/100 mill HOUSTON -- Free-agent slugger Carlos Lee has agreed to terms on a six-year contract with the Houston Astros, according to a Houston television station. KRIV-TV, citing Major League Baseball sources, reported Friday morning that the outfielder had agreed to a six-year contract worth an unspecified amount of money and would be flying to Houston from Panama on Friday evening to sign the contract. Houston general manager Tim Purpura was not immediately available for comment. Lee, who was paid $8 million in 2006, is a career .286 hitter in eight Major League seasons, with 221 home runs and 772 RBIs. He has driven in 80 or more runs each of the last eight seasons and has scored 100 or more runs four times. Since the 2003 season, Lee is tied for 12th in the Major Leagues with 131 home runs and ranks ninth with 442 RBIs. Lee's combined statistics with the Brewers and Rangers last season included a .300 batting average, 37 homers and 116 RBIs. Lee's agent, Adam Katz, met with Astros owner Drayton McLane and Purpura on Wednesday.
November 24, 200619 yr Full no trade clause for 4 years, and limited for the last 2 according to ESPN as well.
November 24, 200619 yr wow...this one just took the cake and I thought JP and Soriano's deals were bad but 6 years-100M plus no trade clause...HELLZ NAH!!!! LOL
November 24, 200619 yr Every time one of the other NL teams shoots itself in the foot as the Astros just did and the Cubs and Dodgers did a few days ago it's good news for the Marlins.
November 24, 200619 yr The money doesn't scare me, it's the length. He's not going to be much more than a DH in 2-3 years, so to give a full 6 year commitment as an NL team, that borders on absurd. Still, this is fantastic news for the Marlins as it keeps him out of Philadelphia.
November 24, 200619 yr Every time one of the other NL teams shoots itself in the foot as the Astros just did and the Cubs and Dodgers did a few days ago it's good news for the Marlins. Wouldn't it show that the market is increasing which will make it even harder for our organization?
November 25, 200619 yr I guess he will no-longer be eating his favs after games (COMPLETAS). Latin code for complete asortment of foods. It comes in a huge white container and includes rice with black beans and a bunch of juicy meat like pork, and churasco, usually costs about two dollars a serving which is a bunch of food, fatty food. I know this personal info about him cause he is in my sisters new family (she got married to someone.)

Wouldn't it show that the market is increasing which will make it even harder for our organization? Pretty much we only spend minimum wage so the upper ceiling salaries wont impact us much. Some of these teams are going through money like drunken sailors with new-found money (new TV contract & new revenue sharing plan that reduced the tax paid from 40% to 31%) and you can be sure 3 or 4 years from now some of these contracts will be finacially hand-cuffing these teams and that's good news for us.
November 26, 200619 yr jesus is he going to terrorize the crawford boxes though...he could hit 55 this year if he stays healthy

Wouldn't it show that the market is increasing which will make it even harder for our organization? No, on the contrary. The poorer teams really just need to wait out the storm, and in 2-3 seasons they'll be able to have their pickings for the most part. The Astros, Dodgers, Angels, and Cubs will all have messy contracts they'll be tied down with for the next few years and it will limit their spending. As rich as some clubs are, not even the Yankees can afford to pay everyone on the team $10 mil for more than 1-2 seasons. Does this hurt us this year and next year, yes, and I think I've pretty loudly complained about that. But after that flux ends, it's going to be better for us.
