Brian Bannister to Royals

Featured Replies

Supposedly a deal has been made between the Mets and the Royals, where the Mets are sending SP prospect Brian Bannister to the Royals for RP Ambiorix Burgos. Rumor has it that the deal will be announced early today.

Sorry, Mets fans, very bad trade. :confused

I disagree.

Burgos is still very young(21-22 I believe), was rushed by the Royals, and projects as a future set-up man/closer

While Bannister looks to be nothing more than a #5 / middle reliver

I guess will see though

God the Royals are a pathetic organization.

They got alot better by changing GMs but Moore is left with the residue of his predecessor and no starting pitching so he'll have to do deals like this for a year or so until their pitching prospects mature. The 2008 Royals could be the 2006 Marlins. Or, if things don;t go well, the 2006 Royals. That said, they have centerfielders coming out their ears, I even read somewhere they in fact might be willing to move DeJesus for the right pitching which suprised me and I don't know (of course I don't :D ) if it's true or not, and they have every playoff bound team's good luck charm in Reggie Sanders they'd like to move, but personally I'm more interested in the three young centerfielders they have who could be had for prospectsor the worst Sergio Mitre.I've thought all along we match up really well with them but the fact we don't hear anything tieing the two teams together suggests Beinfest is looking elsewhere.

I think this is a great trade for the Mets. If Burgos can controll his stuff he could be really good. He's only 22 so he has some time to work things out. He could very well be Wagners replacement in a few years.

what are you talking about, Bannister had terrible control last year, his era was in the 2's by fluke, imagine him being sent to the mound to take on AL offences, I doubt they would be as nice. Besides, Burgos is only 22 and seems to have a lot fo upside, the Royals just called him up too early. Won't Bannister be like 26 this year?

Bannister put up that ERA with smoke and mirrors. Look at his WHIP, then tell me this is a good trade. The Mets got a hard throwing, talented reliever for a 5th starter

I don't know why you would bring up WHIP when considering this trade when Burgos' WHIP is nothing to write home about. From a KC perspective, this is a decent trade. They pick up a 25-year-old 4/5 starter for a young reliever who, while talented, has shown nothing but average to bad results in the bigs to date and may have been ruined by the Royals. Not to mention the fact the Mets rotation looks pretty mediocre right now with the 40-year-old Tom Glavine currently set to be the Mets #1 starter come Opening Day and Zito ending up in a Rangers uniform in 2007 a real possibility.

Either way it looks bad, I think burgos still has the years to improve, Bannister is already going to be 26. You are right about the rotation though, I wonder if the Bullpen will still be as powerful when it is constantly used due to lack of quality starts.
