December 28, 200619 yr With Zito signing that huge monster contract what is he worth in terms of a long term contract if he wsa on the open market right now?
December 28, 200619 yr Hell, if Zito's getting that much money D-Train should be near $80-90 million. Maybe more.
December 28, 200619 yr This helps his trade value. Giants never had enough to trade for him, and teams like the Mets,DBacks,Drays,Rangers etc. etc. still need that pitcher. I'd love to see the type of offers Beinfest could receive.
December 28, 200619 yr Author agreed for the trade value right now has to be crazy I am just curious if he was a FA right now. Would he get 150 over 8? Would he get even more then Zito do you think? He is younger and more marketable. Martinez, Milledge and Pelfrey perhaps from the mets? Something overpaying and insane.
December 28, 200619 yr You know now that the Mets lost out on the Zito sweepstakes the NY sportswriters are going to be stepping up the Willis to Mets trade rumors this offseason big time. Even if they do have the prospects, I think the chances of a Dontrelle to the Mets trade happening are close to zero.

And FishFan79 -- are talking Fernando or Pedro Martinez (I'm assuming Fernando).

I doubt the mets would ever make the trade I proposed that is too much to give . (Supposedly it was reported the marlins are very high on Fmart). But in reading stuff like this. ?not too mention that a team like the Indians will want Lastings Milledge, and probably Mike Pelfrey, in addition to heilman, for a guy like westbrook, considering how the Astros recently sent OF Willy Taveras, RHP Jason Hirsh and RHP Tyler Buchholz to the Rockies for RHP Jason Jennings, who has been less successful than westbrook? Over on metsblog or website right now. It is crazy the idea of what is being thrown around. On another note, Delgado, LoDuca were both at the end of their prime willis wont touch the prime for 2-3 years still.
December 28, 200619 yr Typical reactionary stuff. But you are right, Fernando is a great player. I'd trade Milledge before him.

In trading Dontrelle to the Mets, we would be making the Mets rotation better and younger, two things we do not want to do. He also has historically dominated the Mets and pitched well in New York, another couple things the Marlins won't be looking to give to a division rival. If Dontrelle is traded, I don't see it happening this offseason and not to the Mets (at any time). Not to mention seeing Dontrelle in a Mets uniform would be enough to keep even more away from DS. If he is traded, it will be next offseason and he will be going out west, not east.

December 28, 200619 yr Author original point of the thread was to ask what you guys thought how much he would get in salary out there. I should of been more clear I guess no biggie.
December 28, 200619 yr original point of the thread was to ask what you guys thought how much he would get in salary out there. I should of been more clear I guess no biggie. He wont be a free agent for another 3 years (I think) but if he was a free agent right now I think he should get a little less per year than Zito just because Zito has been a little better than Dontrelle and Zito has done it for a longer period of time.
December 28, 200619 yr 41-34 4.05 was Zito over the last 3 years I don't know how you evaluate pitchers but when I look at Zito I see a guy who makes all his starts every single year who averages about 6.5 innings per start and has a career ERA of 3.55 in the AL. To me that makes him a very good if not an excellent pitcher. In my opinion Zito's 3.55 ERA in the AL is better than Dontrelle's 3.44 ERA in the NL pitching half his games in a pitcher's park. In addition to that Zito has done it for 6 years while Dontrelle has done it for 3.5 years. To me that also means something.

Wouldnt be younger and the marketability of willis project him for more then Zito gets? He is a bigger "draw". They are very alike indeed otherwise. But I would say Oakland is a pitchers park too (not as much as willis though) and willis does have great road splits.

I agree that the chances are slim but you can never say never. Our owner literally told Delgado that he wouldn't be traded and then was mum when asked later; and we know what happened after that. Not only did he trade him but did so in the division. Don't you think our rotation would get younger if we traded him to the Mets? I would expect we would get prospects. Don't get me wrong, he is a leader on this team, and would be sorely missed but you can never rule anybody out. Look at Zito, everyone thought him going to the Mets was almost a done deal. No one even mentioned SF until he signed.
December 29, 200619 yr Author Well The New York Media Waited all of a Day before the "get Willis rumors" started up again. How nice of them. After Again Not Landing Pitcher, Mets May Test the Trade Market December 29 New York Times (registration required): "That label does not appear to apply to pitchers like the Oakland Athletics? Danny Haren or the White Sox?s Jon Garland or Javier V?zquez, pitchers who have interested the Mets... Of pitchers who fit that bill, the Dodgers? Brad Penny may be available, but he has had injury problems. The San Diego Padres are not inclined to trade Jake Peavy. If the Florida Marlins? Dontrelle Willis is made available, it would be a safe bet that Minaya would pursue him." http://www.nj.com/columns/ledger/graziano/....xml&coll=1 Minaya needs to find ace in empty deck December 29 Newark Star-Ledger columnist Dan Graziano (registration required): " So today, Minaya needs to be picking up his phone and calling the Florida Marlins. He needs to find out if there's any chance they'll deal Dontrelle Willis... The San Diego Padres have made some noise this winter about trading their ace, Jake Peavy... And it wouldn't hurt to call the Angels and ask about the availability of Bartolo Colon, who's bound for free agency after this season and might -- just might -- be available in the right deal." http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/29/sports/b...ml?ref=baseball
December 29, 200619 yr Nothing earth shattering, of the course the Mets are interested in Willis. Whether they can get him is a whole different ball game entirely. Personally, I think Peavy is much more likely option.

December 31, 200619 yr Author Yanks Seek An Upgrade Over Unit December 31 New York Post: "As the Yankees work toward unloading Randy Johnson, they are trying to reload their farm system, which may one day put them in position to land a younger version of the Big Unit... If the Yankees were to pry one or two more young arms, it would put them in better position to acquire a young starter, such as the Marlins' Dontrelle Willis or the Twins' Johan Santana, if either were to become available." Unit Trade Not Done Yet There have been a handful of reports that the Randy Johnson trade is complete. However, the New York Daily News reports that the deal has hit a snag over money. The Diamondbacks want the Yanks to kick in some cash, and they also want some of the deferred money they already owe Johnson to be factored into the extension. So there's still some financial ground to cover. Jon Heyman of SI.com indicates that Johnson wants a one-year, $12MM extension. The general structure of the deal seems in place - two or three of Dustin Nippert, Micah Owings, Ross Ohlendorf, and Brandon Medders. However, it appears the the Padres could still sneak in. The New York Post believes that Brian Cashman may be stockpiling prospects with a future trade for Johan Santana or Dontrelle Willis in mind. That paper also mentions that the Diamondbacks are only offering minor leaguers for Johnson. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ http://www.nypost.com/seven/12312006/sport...ew_marchand.htm more made up rumors.

They're trading for Santana now too! haha And if he's stockpiling prospects to go get Dontrelle in a year, he better get Justin Upton or Carlos Gonzalez or Miguel Montero, not a bunch of pitchers our farm system smokes. I'd have a really hard time putting any of those DBacks pitchers and Humberto Sanchez over our entire rotation and at minimum, top 6 arms in the farm (west, volstad, thompson, gaby h, sinkbeil, j. garcia). And that's just the SP!
