Star Trek

Is this supposed to be a comedy?

Some of the best movies I've ever seen have been chalk full of young, rising stars. Why does this movie have to be doomed to failure before it even begins production? There are already quality actors in the film, give it time...damn.

Who the hell are 95 percent of the stars in the past 4 or 5 Star Trek films? And I enjoyed most of the them.

I was going to see this movie with Matt Damon as Captain Kirk, now I won't even bother. There's no way in hell this movie will do the original Star Trek justice, it's just a lame attempt to keep making money of a series that hasn't produced any quality material since First Contact. I will not sacrifice the franchise. We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats. They infringe on the integrity of the original series, we fall back. They recast the entire crew and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further! And I will make them pay for what they've done.

Suit yourself, Picard.

I'll be in the movie theater on December 25, 2008.

I can tell you that when Roddenberry was alive, they never would have been able to do prequels, as he was really against it.

A more interesting prequel idea was just shelved, which would involve the Earth/Romulan War that "Enterprise" never got around to covering.

which was the whole part of that show I was looking forward to.

I personally rather see a future large scale space battle and major war one but oh wells. will see how it is out of the theaters no way paying for another pile of star crap.

Star Trek isn't about wars, though. There are plenty of other science fiction epics (see: Star Wars) that deal with large conflicts.

I think that's why they ended up ruining the franchise: they made DS9 about a war.

They did a good job with the Dominion War arc, if you watched it.

Paramount Pictures and director J.J. Abrams have set Winona Ryder to play the mother of a young Spock (Zachary Quinto) in Star Trek.

Written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the film revolves around the Starfleet Academy days of the crew of the Starship Enterprise.

Ryder joins a cast that also includes Leonard Nimoy, Eric Bana, Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, and Rachel Nichols.

Star Trek is scheduled for a Christmas Day 2008 release date.

Eric Bana, Simon Pegg, Leonard Nimoy and Winona Ryder. Not a bad core so far. Chris Pine is good too.

Yeah, although as much as I like Simon Pegg, I am skepical that he can do a decent Scotty.

I think the last major role yet to be filled is that of Sarek, Spock's father.

New rumors out today suggest the eleventh Star Trek film will be inspired heavily by the classic Original Series episode "The City On The Edge Of Forever."

According to the new spoilers, provided by the IESB, the film will feature TNG-era Romulans, led by Eric Bana's Nero, finding the Guardian of Forever seen in the TOS episode. They use it to go back in time to the 23rd Century, planning to kill James T. Kirk before he has a chance to grow into the legendary Starfleet Captain who managed to save Earth not once, but several times.

Apparently, Mr. Spock, played by Leonard Nimoy, finds out about the Romulans' plan and also goes back in time to warn Zachary Quinto's younger version of himself about the plan. Old Spock arrives before Kirk and Spock have formed their lifelong friendship, and it seems this film may show us the beginning of that bond. The IESB wrote about a "very cool scene" in which Old Spock tells Young Spock about this friendship -- a scene that was described as being "very emotional," despite it taking place between two Vulcans.

The spoiler article was based on reports from the same sources that previously provided the IESB with scoops on the casting of Karl Urban ('Bones' McCoy) and Chris Hensworth (Kirk's father). In addition to the above storyline summary, the sources also revealed that young Kirk will first be seen in the film as he is taking the Kobayashi Maru test -- a supposedly "unwinnable" test that all Starfleet cadets are required to take, and that was previously already seen in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. In that film, we learned that Kirk was the only cadet who ever passed the test, after he reprogrammed the computer simulation.

Awesome! I've always wanted to see Kirk take the Kobayashi Maru test.

The plot doesn't seem too shabby.....I think it could work if it's written well.

Very interesting rumor indeed. I was wondering how they would explain having old Spock in the film, although I don't understand the reasoning of using the Romulans as the main villians in the film considering that the Enterprise (if I remember correctly) only fought the Romulans once in the episode "Balance of Terror".

I think the film just got a lot more interesting.

Ben Cross to Play Sarek in Star Trek

Source: StarTrek.com

Ben Cross has been cast as Sarek, the Vulcan father of Spock in the upcoming Star Trek feature film.

Cross, a graduate of London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, rose to international stardom with his breakout role as runner Harold Abrahams in the Academy Award-winning 1981 film Chariots of Fire. He will be seen in the upcoming Hero Wanted with Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ray Liotta.

He will be paired with Winona Ryder, portraying Spock's human mother Amanda Grayson. The young Spock will be played by Zachary Quinto.

The film, currently in production under the direction of J.J. Abrams, is scheduled for release on Christmas Day 2008.

After waiting some time, here is the first image of the Enterprise from the upcoming film.

In addition, the first trailer for Star Trek XI is expected to appear tomorrow in theaters with Cloverfield, also produced by J.J. Abrams.

I'm going to the midnight release tonight, I'll let you know how it is.

After the teaser trailer, I'm excited. With the cinematic effects available to Abrams at this point in the film industry there is so much he could do with the movie.

Does it show anything of significance?

No...just shows the image of the ship (under construction) with the voice over by Shatner

Today Paramount changed the release date of the new Star Trek movie from Christmas 2008 to May 2009. Their stated reason was their belief that Star Trek can compete as an early summer film. The only other significant film currently scheduled for release around that time is X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
