November 18, 200817 yr Author I saw it, it looks awesome. There MAY be Klingons in the trailer, although there's a lot of speculation both ways about that. One of the ships shown several times in the trailer is the USS Kelvin, which is the ship Kirk's dad serves on.
November 19, 200817 yr I have never been into Star Trek before nor do I know much of the mythology and characters behind it (besides the extreme basics). Will I still be able to appreciate this movie and not be lost while watching it? I wasn't sure if this is a prequel or reboot or whatever.

Abrams claims it's not a reboot, but I think it's being made for the purpose of drawing people into the franchise, not to appease hardcore Trekkies. I, for one, like it.

There is going to be a prequel comic miniseries which explains the background of the Romulan villain (Nero, played by Eric Bana), and how Spock ends up going back in time. I was also happy to hear that this film will be released simultaneously in IMAX format. :thumbup
