October 12, 200323 yr Is it just me? Beckett is dominating today - WHY THE HELL IS ZAMBRANO HANGING WITH HIM? The umpires are just giving Zambrano every call - and he is wild as hell right now. This is completely unfair because they didnt give D Train a chance last night, but right now Z is just as wild but getting better calls. I hate to say it, but it does seem a little one sided right now with the calls. These Cubs are being given their shot at the World Series. A lot of adversity here....
October 12, 200323 yr it's funny, usually umps will make you prove that you can hit the corners before they start giving you the calls. for zambrano, it's "hey, throw it anywhere you want, it's still a strike!" completely blew the call on Conine's check-swing too. Instead of 1-1, it's 0-2, Jeff's in a hole & the whole at-bat changes. Eat shi#%t ump.
October 12, 200323 yr you have to at least call for help on those check swings..... they are close..not that damn obvious.

They didn't give D-Train a chance cuz it was a different ump. You're making it sound like the same ump squeezed Willis and was giving the calls to Zambrano. Different umps, different zones. It was a big zone today, but they called it both ways.
October 13, 200323 yr Author Right Gee. Clement didnt get any calls yesterday that Willis did...uh huh. Sure, it is a different ump today. But the same thing was going on. Cubs pitchers did not have to prove themselves to get calls while we had to be on in order to get consideration. There were several key pitches that the umps messed up today. Dont tell me that Zambrano was good enough to escape with bases loaded twice. He was wild...got way too many calls.

Sure, he got a few, but that happens every game. I don't think I'd be complaining about their pitcher getting more calls then ours when ours threw a 2-hitter, walking one (or two?) with 11 K's.
October 13, 200323 yr Author Uh, keep some context here Gee. Through 4 innings, Zambrano and Beckett were both getting the same results - a shutout. You saw Conine's 'check swing'. You even saw Castillo's 'check swing' on a ball out of the strike zone that the umpire didnt rule a strike except on the check by Castillo. He did check his swing, but instead immediately rung him up (like he did Conine). That isnt even including some very questionable calls Zambrano was getting on the outer corners. Beckett was dominating yesterday, but Z was hanging with him without really earning it. It bothered me, but keep some perspective.

I heard it on the radio (I was going to pick up a Pizza from Pizza Hut.) Remember Livan's strike zone v.s the Braves in '97? How would you feel if Zambrano won that game yesterday? Maybe I would be madder at the umps if we lost yesterday, but really, we won, so why complain?
