Cody Ross

I would trade Ross to any team that could give me a reliever that can make the Marlins on opening day. Toronto and Seattle make sense to me. The Blue Jays need a backup outfielder and the Marlins could use someone like Jason Frasor....makes sense. Or make a bigger deal with the Mariners for Jeremy Reed and and Jake Woods using Ross and Petit.

I still think that Ross is more versatile then Borchard in about every facet of the game and considering Hermidas' injury problems and Willinghams defensive woes I would take him to be the 4th OF/defensive replacement

also Amenzaga should be the primary MI utility guy and not used as an OF unless its an emergency

lastly taking 13 pitchers in the begining of the season when its not needed is pretty stupid

the only difference is that Frasor is a good RP and those dont come often

Giving up Ross at this point would be a mistake. The Dodgers regreated trading Ross. Cinci didn't have room for him, they were just covering for Griffey on th dl. Ross produced alot of game winning for the Marlins. For that matter, Ross is the best defensive player in left and right field at the moment. There are many Marlins players not hitting including Ross. Hermida is worthless in right field right now. Is he going to get better? You have to wonder what Hermida's trade value is worth, even though Fredi said he would start Hermida in right field even if he had no hits in spring training. Thats a big statement for a player that really hasn't prooven his worth to the team. De aza is doing a great job, and I'm sure he will be an insurance call up if the other outfielders don't perform. I just can't see the Marlins keeping 6 outfielders including Amezega. Somebody has got to go. Sanchez is cheap, Reed has options, De aza has options. Remember that the Marlins really think about bottom line. Is Ross a trade commodity? Probably to some teams looking for a fourth outfielder. But the Marlins would have to give up some pitching for a fair closer trade. Marlins don't like giving up pitchers. Keep Ross on the roster, send Sanchez back down, see what Reed does in the real deal and go from there. That way you don't loose any of your strength. As everyone keeps saying, spring training stats mean nothing. Right.

Hermida is still worth a bundle. It's his second season, and his minor league career was real impressive. I don't see how the Dodgers regretted trading Ross. He wouldn't have made the team this year either. Sanchez is out of options, so he would have to pass thru waivers (lololol at anyone actually looking at him).

Depending on what the Bucs or whoever offer, trading Ross could be in our best interest.

unless we don't get a legit CF via another trade, why trade from a position of weakness?

Cody was valuable last year, and I don't think this spring is indicative of his talent level

I agree. I think CF and RF are weaknesses. Hermida's productiveness for the '07 season has to be a question mark.
