Posted March 26, 200718 yr One of baseball's silliest notions is to pretend the All-Star exhibition "means" something, more than the price ticketholders spend in September, when games should be more important than something no one cares about. As it turns out, the reason the 2002 All-Star Game ended up tied was that a pitcher on one of the two teams was imbibing in the clubhouse and was not in condition to pitch, hence the game ended. And that's how home-field advantage is decided in the World Series, not by regular-season excellence. But then, what owner thinks about the guys who spend their money on tickets? So who was it? American League Derek Lowe Roy Halladay Mark Buehrle Barry Zito Eddie Guardado Kazuhiro Sasaki Ugueth Urbina Mariano Rivera Freddy Garcia National League Curt Schilling Mike Williams Odalis Perez Eric Gagne Trevor Hoffman Mike Remlinger Byung-Hyun Kim Robb Nen John Smoltz Vicente Padilla
March 26, 200718 yr I went through the box scores, the rosters everything and couldnt figure out who it was.
March 26, 200718 yr well if the game would have went into the 12th, Padilla would have been the only one able to pitch... so...
March 26, 200718 yr If I had to guess who it was it would be Zito because Padilla in all fairness couldnt come out to pitch because he had already pitched 2 innings and stretching him out in an allstar game isnt right. Now look at the box score and you see Zito pitched just 1/3 of an inning and was replaced by Guardado. Now I would understand if the manager was playing the match ups but guardado is a lefty so removing Zito a lefty for another lefty after 1/3 of an inning is'nt right, unless something was wrong. Like your pitcher being to plastered to pitch.
March 26, 200718 yr if its true, it has to be zito, he faced one batter and threw three pitches, but then again if they were going to allow pitchers back in the game, it could have been anyone who came out of the game and start post game celebrating a lil early
March 26, 200718 yr Sounds like Gammons talking out of his ass. Why would he even say it, 5 years later, if it wasn't true or didn't have some truth to it? I don't see what he'd have to gain.

They are rumors, of course not every rumor comes to fruition. There is a reason Billy Beane keeps his number on speed dial. No other reporter has their finger on the pulse like he does. I can't believe people would say you don't have credibility if a trade rumor you are reporting on falls apart.

And that's why there are certain rumor mongers who people hold more value with....guys like that one from TSN no one likes and Mike Berardino throw out rumors and are wrong and have lost credibility in the business....
