Logan Morrison hit home run number 7 tonight for greensboro as well.

The lefty first baseman was a draft and follow we managed to get signed just in time before the 06 draft, he spent that year at the same community college Albert Pujols attended (not that i'm suggesting he that means anything, just a note of trivia). Greensboro 3B Jacob Blackwood was on the same squad as Morrison too.

Morrison is still 19 years old, and is now hitting .287/.370/.483. If he can keep improving he has the ability to play his way into serious consideration as a prospect. He'll have Gaby Sanchez ahead of him in the system, but he is 4 years younger and will have time to work his way through the horror that is hitting in Jupiter.

Ramp you continue show that you know nothing about baseball or the marlins .all you do is have your favorite and every body else will never make it, get a life and go do something else . I think your a terrible marlin fan and you are bad for Marlinsbaseball since all you do is write rubish

I actually like(d) your boy Gaby. Then he decided to forget how to hit in A ball.

you need to read more or ask your insiders, he has not forgotten to hit the ball ,he's hit the ball hard all season but you are the one that also wanted Hermida to be traded & look at him now. I think the marlins still like him when he plays everyday and hits 3rd every game. Check away stats .320/382/443 ops 825 the problem is Jupiter 30 miles winds coming in from center

I wanted Hermida to be traded?

you must have me confused with someone else

and as for Gaby, I'm not the only one who is wondering what the hell happened to him

Ramp wanted Hermida to be traded? When was this?

Anyhow, I have often wondered to myself if Morrison was turning himself into a prospect. IMO, he is as of now. But he hasnt hit Jupiter yet, so that could all change rather quickly.

BTW, on a sidebar, it seems as if Volstad was let down more by his defense than anything. Is it possible Aaron Thompson will pass him on the prospect depth chart?

no I was at the game 3 of 6 error were not 1 by septimo 1 by sanchez 1 by fulton and the 1 sanchez made was also ? high bounce in the sun .Volstad is missing .he'll come back better than ever. because his a great player ,same for Harvey & Gaby

he can do that or keep playing right field the marlins will make that call .by the way ramp when was the last time you saw jupiter play

spike whose bat

he can do that or keep playing right field the marlins will make that call .by the way ramp when was the last time you saw jupiter play

beginning of the month vs the Dodgers

ramp you know better than that ,they never played the dodger you meant vero beach devil rays .Again all talk and you have not seen them play

Hayes is having a hell of a year...somehow I completely missed him getting promoted to AA a few weeks back

And as for Gaby...it may be Jupiter, it may not. Bottom line he isn't hitting the ball well this year. But none of that really matters until he learns to at least be a below average fielder. He's awful out there...(granted I haven't seen him this year)...and for the record he had 2 errors in last night's game according to minorleaguebaseball.com

Andy Jenkins is still my hero. Man is killing the ball in May: .385

ramp you know better than that ,they never played the dodger you meant vero beach devil rays .Again all talk and you have not seen them play

sorry, I'm a total moron as the Dodgers used to run the show in Vero

anyway, not sure why you care what I think, considering every player is a gift from god in your eyes

Gaby Sanchez stinks right now, plain and simple. I don't judge a player on seeing them once. It's not fair to them or to me. It just so happens that Gaby and Kris Harvey had rough nights vs Jacob McGee that night.

Gaby's numbers in the FSL

.244/.323/.348 1 homerun

he can't hit lefties, he can't hit righties

he can't hit in April, he can't hit in May

he can't hit with the bases empty, he can't hit with runners on, he can't hit with them in scoring position

I`ll give you # ,#3 Hitter leads team AB 164 in Hits 40 in 2B 12 in TB 57 2nd in R 24 2nd in RBI 16 & I already gave you # away from home but you look at what you want to see because his not your boy . and if you check game by game 60% of outs have been hard hit balls, if I were the marlins that's what counts.but we are only 1/3 of the season allot of at bats to go

  • Author

Great, he hits awesome away from home. I see those numbers. Just because he leads the team in numbers doesn't mean anything. Where are the homeruns? And if you are right that 60% of his outs have been hard hit balls, which is far-fetched to say the least, that means eventually he will get some bloops in there and his numbers will recover.

Gaby is tied for 3rd in RBI. He is behind Andy Jenkins, Brad McCann(AA) and at 16 with Agustin Septimo.

His numbers are flat out terrible right now. Maybe he's just another college guy who dominates Greensboro and struggles in Jupiter. Hopefully that isn't the case, but he is having a very similar 2 seasons like Brad McCann had.

Andy by the way, Gaby had 55 at bats in Jupiter last year and stunk too. Maybe this pitching is too advanced for him? Maybe the FSL is in his head. I don't know. I do realize it's only been 7 weeks or so, but his prospect star might be in free fall soon.

Anyone have any idea what is going on with Volstad? He was Volstud now he is Volsdud.

Seems to me the guy is just way too hittable right now. He is an extreme ground ball pitcher who will need an above average infield defense behind him to make an impact.

So many of his balls go into play, I think he needs to learn to throw at a batter and out of the strike zone sometimes. It's almost as if he is just challenging every hitter...'ok here comes my sinker...go ahead and hit it and lets hope it goes to infielder because I know you won't hit it out of the ballpark'.

I still think he is a starting pitcher in the bigs though and wouldn't hit the panic button yet.

I probably shouldn't be saying anything but...

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :ban

I don't agree with the guy on some his points, either but I'll be the first to say that the dude knows his stuff. Ramp is one of the brighter posters on this board, in my opinion.

And by the way: A .244 BA sucks.

*thinks to self: I just defended Ramp? :headscratch *

That was mainly his problem last year too. Just threw too much stuff over the plate from what I saw. His stuff is excellent. Once he learns how to use it even more effectively hes gonna be a stud

90 Feet From Home 05.22.2007: Down On The Farm - Part 2

Posted by Dan Owen on 05.23.2007

90 Feet From Home is back! Join me as we look at all of the National League prospects that you will be watching in the next couple of years.

Warming Up

I'm back!!! After a long hiatus, 90 Feet From Home is back. I hope you haven't missed me too much, but as they say, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder." So where have I been? Well, since we last talked, I was promoted to Editor in Chief of the Sports Zone. I've been by working on upgrading the content here in the Sports Zone, and I would check back in the Sports Zone in just a week or two to see some of the new writers we've brought on. Also, I had finals, which considerably cut into my time, but now those are over and done with. I'll finally be bringing you the second part of my look into the minor leagues. I would like to say before we get started, however, that the information I have is a bit dated, and some of it might not be applicable anymore. Some players may have been called up, and while I try to look these things up, it isn't always easy to find the time to check all of that info.

Down On The Farm ? Part 2

Four weeks was long enough to wait, so let's just dig in to the National League prospects

Florida Marlins

RHP Chris Volstad - The only thing higher than his potential is his height, and nothing seems to be stopping this righty's tear through the minors. ETA: Early 2008

1B Gaby Sanchez - He looked like an elite major league hitter in the Arizona Fall League, his plate discipline and overall hitting approach are amazing. ETA: Late 2007

LHP Sean West - West is big and burly, but he only throws a 93 mph fastball. His emotions are what make him great, but that could be a problem if things go south for him. ETA: Late 2008

RHP Gaby Hernandez - He was picked up in the Paul Lo Duca trade, but you have to wonder if he was worth one of the best clubhouse leaders in the game. ETA: Late 2008

LHP Aaron Thompson - His stuff and composure remind a lot of scouts of a young Tom Glavine, which is always a positive. ETA: Early 2009
