Show your Florida driver's license now or take off that Marlins hat!!!!

My most comical Red Sox fan experience. Freshman year we are drinking/watching the Yankees/Sox game 7 with a couple Yanks fans and a couple Sox fans. Well one of them was talking trash the entire game. As Boone hits the GW homerun he leaves the room and later we find out he gets arrested because he's pulling bushes out of the ground in front of the security office. Kid was hilarious/obnoxious...

Anyways every team has fans who are completely obnoxious. Hell people probably hate me when I go to DC and cheer on the Marlins. I'm annoying as hell. I do have good baseball conversations with the local fans and whatnot, but I never have a problem with trash talking. It's fun stereotyping fans, but bottom line the majority of those fans do not fit the stereotype.

:lol

Anyone who creates magical who is and who isn't a fan rules convienently wrapped around himself does in fact, need to get over themselves.

I know you are an e-curmudgeon but anyone who feels he knows what makes a fan or not is hilarious.

exactly - what about people who frequently move - should they change their allegiance at a drop of the hat? - how is that being a fan

i spent many years watching my team in hostile road environments - i've never been to a marlins home game, but catch them anytime I can - since living in phx i'll even make the trip over to ABQ to watch the kids play and i'll follow the young ones in the AFL

I guess Swift wants me to stop cheering for the Marlins in DC, since I've never been to South Florida.

It's cool, I've been a Marlins fan for 10 years and all, but hey, I can see how it doesn't count. :confused

unfair swift. i've moved to five cities in my short 21 years, and i'm supposed to change teams every time i move? i used to like the cubs (not anymore), kinda like the white sox, rangers, padres, neutral to marlins and devil rays (expect vs. braves). and it's really unfair to those that don't have a hometown team to root for.

and i can assure to you, i am not a bandwagon braves fan. i don't remember anything pre 1991 (at all), so i'm unfairly labeled bandwagoner just because my team has been good for so long? i'll stand by my team no matter if we finish in first or last or anywhere in between. just because i don't live in the hometown doesn't make me a fan.

All I'm going to say about "out of towners" is this:

1) If you aren't able to produce a driver's license from the state in which the team you are cheering for plays, you're not allowed to be obnoxious as a fan of the visiting team. Double true if you produce a driver's license from the state in which the game is being played and you are rooting against the home team.

2) If you don't live at least 3 months out of the year in the state in which the team you are cheering plays its home games, yet the state features a professional sports franchise of the same sport...you got some 'splaining to do.

a) The above can be voided if you moved from the state in which the team plays its home games.

3) You have to have attended the homefield of your favorite team at least once to be a "fan" and at least once in the past 5 years if you wish to cheer for them on the road.

4) If you cannot answer a simple question about your team before its national trendiness, you forfeit all rights as a fan even if the above conditions are met. (Point of reference, ask a "Red Sox fan" not from Boston who the Splendid Splinter was...tons of fun 7/10 times).

I cant figure out if I should label this pathetic or lame.

start cheering for the yankees and jets since you live in ny most of the year.

I live in providence now, lived in boston for two years, and am originally from miami. I have never lived in NY yet I used to have season tickets to the jets and still go to about 3-4 home games a year (3 hour drive each way). I've also gone to about 20 away games. But I guess I am not a fan because I dont have a NY (well I guess its technically NJ) license.

Who cares what he says, I mean really? Why are you even paying attention to his rules? if you like the braves and have followed them for a while who is anyone to tell you who to cheer for?

There are certainly no residency rules for being a fan. How good of a fan is based on knowledge, passion, and devotion. It certainly has nothing to do with geography.

I can understanding why TSwift would go on a rant like that though. I really hate Met and Yankee fans in South Florida.
