Batting Practice

Featured Replies

They're out there for an hour and then opposing team comes out for another hour.

I read that gates open 90 minutes before gametime. Does this mean we only see the tail-end of the Marlins' batters?

AFAIK some teams (I'm not sure about the Marlins) do not do Sunday BP as it is a day game. Mainly teams in warmer weather cities do not follow the practice, but I am not sure about the Marlins.

I went on Saturday, gametime was 7, the opened the gates at 5'o clock and when I got out there the Marlins were stretching for a little while then started batting practice which went for awhile and the Rays followed. Didn't get any autographs though. :(

I was just gonna ask about the autographs, anyone ever gotten any? Where do you need to go?

Stand above the Marlins dugout, I was standing in the middle, players going by it all the time so you just ask but a lot say not right now.

Mike Jacobs was signing when I was there but he was all the way on the right side. Cody Ross also signed for a looooooooonggggg time but he focused on the right and left and never really came to the middle.

What do you mean above? Where the Mermaids dance or the seats next to it?

behind or next to the awning where the mermaids dance. You can ask the

players to toss you a ball too.

I asked Rich Waltz for a ball last time and he just looked at me with a

fruity face...

Anyone know who is an autograph friendly guy?

marlins are a nice team. it really depends on timing thou. i can tell u that 85% of the time however, the marlins dont do batting practice on sunday games. they really only do it if theyve been struggling that week, or make it optional. if they make it optional then the players get there earlier to take it.

i was a batboy in 02-04 and what i found is that players will more than likely sign, but some dont because after they bat they go fool around with visitng team (friends and such) and that takes up time from what they need to be doing inside prior to the game. such as eating, mettings, extra stretching and preparing for the game. so sometimes its not the players being mean, its just them taking too much time outside and having to get inside.

your chances of getting autographs are right before the game, id say half hour before, when players come out for one final stretch and such before the game. if you are going to batting practice just go to the visiting side. if the marlins are NOT outside when you get there early then YOU WONT see them. outside of joe borchard, or someone that doesnt even belong in the major leagues, the other marlins will be busy and wont come out until its time to stretch (as metioned above 30mins before)

hope that helps and makes sense, and like i said...i know what im talking about.

in short...if u dont see them out there when u get there...they arent coming out.

Anyone ever been to a Sunday game with batting practice. Now, doubt it since its really hot outside. Maybe the opposing team will take it.

theres been sunday games with batting practice and theres been sunday games with nothing. but nobody on this forum can say if it will happen or not. its up to each team the night before. so its just your luck if you get there and the visitors are taking it or not.

omg im sooooooo going to the batting praxctice on june 23 woot woot I PRAY dat hermida gives me an autograph it is my goal lol thankiis for all this awsome info :)

I went to the last Mets vs Marlins series on a Sunday and to my surprise, the Marlins were having BP.... Hanley Ramirez signed above the dugout for a good # of people afterwards.

Gates open 1.5 hrs prior to gametime and sometimes you can catch the Marlins wrapping up their BP; otherwise, you can watch the visiting team hit BP. Sundays theres almost never BP, but you never know, and I was definitely surprised when I went during the Mets series and saw them stretching on the field. Usually its scorching hot out and they do their BP indoors.
