urumotherpucker94
If the Rangers eat up some of his contract then yes, but otherwise, the front office wouldnt do it.
Flamarlins3
I don' think money would be the issue here...Lofton would probably cost the Marlins a lot prospect-wise. I think he'd be a great fit, but are the Marlins willing to give up the talent to get him? I dunno.
Fishfan79
bradley is cheaper and better
urumotherpucker94
So you think the Fish would spend 3 million dollars on him? Are you serious? Not see it happening unless they eat up the contract.
Iowa
I guess I dont see Kenny costing that much prospect wise.. he's 39 and a FA next year. I cant see Texas holding out for a super spect over a guy who they have no intentions bringing back... ...and i really dont know if teams would throw top players at them for kenny lofton. Other than as a backup, i dont see any teams needing a stopgap starting CF of teams that are contending.. i mean, maybe the cubs but i dont see them making that mistake again.... and do you thikn these teams would give up top arms for a backup? Maybe but i doubt it. Texas is going to be moving a lot of players.
Guest Guest
Guess I dont really see what a 39 year old whos best days with the glove are behind him and would still need to be platooned really brings to the team.
Iowa
You talk about him like hes inept Look.. he is what he is. Im not proclaiming kenny lofton the savior of the marlins or the best player in baseball... but the guy can still play. He gets on base, still plays an effective OF, runs bases extremely well and can still hit the ball.. and i dont think this gets said enough.. the stability of a guy who would play everyday, and one of veteran presence like him, would be great for this team. Everyones looking for a centerpeice.. we have the centerpeices. As for the whole platoon thing, no. If texas didnt have 86 OFs, he'd be playing. Hes shown his career he can hit lefties. MarlinsLou
bradley is cheaper and better and in a contract year, so if he sucks, he won't get any sort of deal in the offseason. Whoever gets him, Bradley is going to go on a tear to prove to people he's still good. He's easily the best option based on quality of player and price it will take to get him. This same guy who doesn't have more than 500 plate appearances in the past 5 years is going to be our everyday answer? Awesome.
Iowa
Well, good luck finding a CF who can give 500 PAs over a given season at this point in the season. Awesome. The reason i say this move makes the most sense was because, imo, i just dont see it costing that much. Look at the teams who would be buyers.. how many are in the market for a starting CF? I really dont see any.. and that doesnt mean teams wouldnt want him for insurance or as a backup.. I'm just wondering, since some see him costing a lot prospect wise, do you think teams would give up top prospects for 1/2 year of lofton as a backup? I just dont see it happening. I think bullpen would be a priority over a 4th OFer to most contenders.

Iowa
What was your point then? Just wondering
bobbob1313
That over the course of 5 full seasons, he hasn't had 500 plate appearances in any single season. So there's a good chance that over the course of this season, he probably won't reach 500 plate appearances. Which means he'll probably get injured at some point. Or he'll wear down if he actually does reach 500.

I mean, he did sign on to be a starter. He played in 129 games last year as the everyday guy, hit the 15 day DL once. In '05, hit .335 in a platoon with Michaels. In '04 on the yankees 80 games.. he wasnt there to be an everyday guy with Bernie there. Had over 500 PAs in both '02 and '03 (and could be close this year) fwiw Yea hes old but i still think he can be an effective player and im really trying to argue for the guy without trying to make him out as the guy who can come in and can save the world.. because i dont feel that way. He is what he is and like ive said, i just htink hed be a great fit and not cost that much.
bobbob1313
I think we can get Bradley for less, and he's a much better option.
Iowa
Thats all you had to say ..but that 500 PA logic kinda works against ya on that one
Guest Guest
The last 2 years he is hitting .208/.281/.267 against LHP. Sure, 3+ years ago he wasnt that bad vs lefties, but that was 3+ years ago. He would have to be platooned. He has been awful defensively the last 2 years as well. No need to make this acquisition.
Iowa
Man, why is this guy even in the league? First off, hes been far from awful in the field. Obviously not the same guy as he used to be, but a guy im comfortable having out there. As for the LH thing, i dont put that much stock in to it at all.. especially in this case. Yea he hasnt hit it great this year, 35 ABs.. big deal. Last year he didnt hit it well either but still hit over .300 on the season.. i mean come on. Get him ABs, he'll do fine. Backin2008
I've seen a lot of Rangers games this season and he's far from awful on defense. He still has more than enough speed to handle CF at Dolphins Stadium. He also is light years better an anyone the Marlins are playing in CF despite his age. I don't think the Marlins would have to give up much more than they would to get Bradley because a lot of teams are after Bradley and that will drive up the cost. Great idea but too marquee a player to bring without losing something in return we have nothing to offer that we don't need now or in the future. Lofton late season maybe, not now. As for throwing a Rock in the mix, we did alright with Cabrara and Willis in 03, aggressive rookies can add to the mix, I like Carroll and think he looks like a gamer, let him play through "baptism by fire" I think a great everyday player may emerge by playoff time with experience and confidence to boot. Just my take.
